Good thread, just bought my first commuting bike yesterday so I'm going to have to get all these clothes too.

I bought myself an Altura jacket as that is what I see most of the other cyclists wearing!

Coupled with cycling shorts, and a change of clothes in my bag (within a waterproof inner bag) keeps me ok.

£10 waterproof trousers cut off above the knee over normal shorts, and a tech-t with windproof gillet or pertex top on the top half. Just concentrate on keeping warm and fast drying. I find softshells and full waterproofs to be waaay too hot and sweaty unless it's below zero.

This place does decent enough biking gear at reasonable prices:

I use their cycling shorts and also have one of their waterproof jackets, very happy with what I've bought so far. Personally, I don't see the point in spending loads of money on riding gear as I know I'll only come off and put a hole in the sleeve etc, but then again maybe thats just a sign of my riding skills.

Got to say I like my waterproof shorts. My commute gets bloody cold during the winter and getting wet then is a major issue, so I've got 3/4 length (just below the knees) waterproof shorts to wear in place of my usual baggies on my commute. My mid-calf length waterproof socks just about meet the bottom of them. They're actually chopped down waterprrof cycling trousers I got from ALDI last year but they're good enough.

I've also got a set of Endura Superlight waterproof shorts for MTBing too though, awesome shorts for muddy mtbing during the winter, not too much betty swollocks either...

I got an Endura Covert II jacket than converts into a gillet (the sleaves come off basically). I hate having sweaty arms so it's perfect for me, waterproof, keeps the wind off and even packs away into itself.
