Put it down to experience. She's a silly bh for cutting you up. You're a twerp for running into her offside rear light.

Nothing personal.

Bloody drivers! Sounds like stupidity rather than malice though.

However, once you hit her car (and caused the only actual RTA!!) you lost the moral high ground.

It's a dangerous world out there, stay safe.

Annoying though it is, from an RTA point of view the person that hits the rear of a slowing car is normally at fault, so not much you can do except be even more careful.

I've had the craziest week ever, nearly hit about a dozen times, it must be something to do with it getting dark earlier, I just don't know. I've had about 6 people just step off the pavement right in front of me - don't know what is going on at the moment.

I'd put this one down to experiance, mind you it has been a mad week also for me on my daily commute into London. I scared the hell out of a young lady who blithly walked out in front of me wearing her i-pod. I've got one of those bike air horns, she actually jumped a good foot in the air whilst trying to make it back to the curb at the same time!

A chap got on the wrong side of me doing this the other day..

I was going down a long straight road, he saw me coming, and I saw him, when I got about 10 foot away he steps out, I brake from about 20 mph and hit his leg... I say "what the fk are you doing" he says "you bloody cyclists need to learn the rules of the road" and with that he slapped me in the ear, quite hard... Needless to say by this stage I am fuming, not only has he seemingly done this all on purpose but he also has the cheek to smack me. So the moment he had done that he got a hard jab to the face and stumbled back on to the pavement.

People are a joke.

sounds like you didn't leave enough gap between you and the car. At the time of collision you were behind here, so you are at fault. She indicated to go left, which you clearly saw, so why didn't you just slow down as she went passed you and wait for her to turn left? What is it with cyclsts that they seem incapable of stopping at red lights, pedestrian crossings or slowing down for a vehicle to make a manoevre that it has clearly indicated it is about to perform?

Why didn't the car wait for the cyclist to past the junction?

Anyway, cycling along a road in Portsmouth doing about 20mph and a woman in an old Polo comes past me with her left indicator on. So I watched her slow right in front of me and decided to go around the outside of her.
Sounds like some people here need to learn to read before they reply!

I've had this before then a car comes just past and turn left across the front of me when I've been on my bike. Sounds like the OP shouldn't have tried to go around, but instead run into the nearside as it would have been the driver fault for sure.

I'm sure people on here moaning about cyclists wouldn't like it if a car did the same to you if you're in your car.

The car went passed the cyclist. Ifthe car was so close, the bike would have hit the car at that point. However, the OP said he had time to pull over to the right and attempt to overtake the car, so the car clearly gave the cyclist plenty of space. It was the cyclist who decided to turn to the right but didn't have the observation or forethought that the car might brake for the left hand turning. Cyclist at fault, in fact it would have been the fault of a motorcyclist (and I amd one also) or another car if the vehicles had been different.

It's nice to see that this has raised a healthy debate! smile

I have to admit that I should have just slowed down, but obviously I wanted to keep my momentum so tried to overtake! Yes I'll admit it wasn't the best thing to do.

What actually happened was that I'd judged the speed she was doing so took the course to avoid her, but then she more or less stopped, thus blocking the space that I had intended on going. My fault I suppose.

But, as has been mentioned, why couldn't she just wait behind me?
