Yup. My recent bike claim was settled for roughly £2,800 with £50 excess through M&S. Top service.

Just a quick update, so far the Police have been excellent and kept in touch - to the point of they had an idea of who coild be behind it and even found a pair of my spare wheels , unfortunately they can't prove they are mine and the scrote says he bought them off Leeds market , a real pisser as all my wheels have my name and post code in them APART from that pair.

On the good side , M&S have been in constant contact and I'm now dealing with there're approved shop which is "Wheelies Direct" in Swansea and it looks like I'll be able to specify the spec on all the bikes as I want them up to £4k per bike , so its all very nice so far .

Still wish I had my old stuff back though.

I'll keep you all updated as I know its interesting to know how good Insurance companies are in a time of need.

I'd do some more research into this.

As although they will push you towards it you do not, as to the beat of my knowledge, HAVE to use their preffered supplier.

You could get your bike anywhere as long as you provide the relevant invoices.

You will need to speak to the right people to find out about this, as the call-centre junior who reads off a sheet will probably try and disagree.

Rich, I presume you had all your bikes listed specifically as named items with detailed descriptions on the M&S ins policy? I need to insure a couple of expensive road bikes worth more than £2k, and several companies are not proving very helpful. Bike specific insurance is very expensive....

No description needed up to 4k per item, even covered away from home. It needs to be their premium policy though.

M&S house insurance is regarded by quite a few people I know from the downhill scene as the best way of insuring your bikes. It isn't hugely cheap but is cheaper than cheap house insurance plus bike insurance.

BUMP.

Just to update everyone on this , new bikes arrived today smile

I must say that after the initial st experience of have ALL your pride n job stolen , the dealings with Marks & Spencer ins have been superb, not once have they quibbled about my (large) claim and instantly paid out ,ie my claim was then put in the hands of "Wheelies Direct" in Swansea . Yes I could have taken a cash payout - but to be truefull the deal I got from wheelies was unrefusable , and more so they have also been superb with sorting out a very complicated 5 bike custom build, calls are returned / questions answered/ problems solved etc.

So basically I'm a happy bunny again and will shortly be out riding , but I'd just like to say that M&S have been superb and so have Wheelies , and if anyone on here works for either - keep up the good work.

Can i suggest Almax chains for the new ones. THey weigh a ton and cost a fortune but if the scrotes can cut them then they either made an aweful lot of noise doing it or used hydrolic cutter which means they didnt stand a chance anyway!

Good to hear smile

And also good to hear a positive report from someone having to claim on M&S insurance (not that I've heard of any negatives, I just haven't heard of many people having to claim on it for bikes before). I've been with M&S for years now so that's good to know dealing with them isn't too much of a ballache if the worst happens.

I can't praise them enough , they even payed for a rear swingarm on my (ex)yeti 575 when I crashed in Les Arcs this summer.

HAha was just wondering, they will probs have another go thats all, garages are a pita security wise, the only way around it I find is to store nothing worth nicking in there (well apart from two cars!). I keep my bikes in the house (much to the misses pleasure)

Glad to see you got a result on the insurancesmile

LOL

Yep, unfortunately some thieves - if they're bright enough - realise that somewhere they previously found a stash of bikes will soon have a replacement set they can also steal. Fortunately most are thick as s**t, but I have still heard of it happening.
