depends on the riding, i have a spesh echelon for the road and a giro rift for off road. what you buy is most likely to be what fits best, some have odd fitting methods like dials or ratchet style tabs which are not to all tastes. as for best place, try your lbs before going online, as i said fit is essential...

I bought a top-endy Specialized something-or-other from Evans. It was £110-ish but is ultra-light (I barely notice it's there) and extremely well vented - good for summer.

Mile better than the various £35-£50 ones I used to use.

Well after a mate telling me how he nearly fell face first into a rock im leaning towards full face at the moment.Lol. I like the look of the specialised light and vented ones...

full face helmets are very hot and uncomfortable for long rides, the times you are likely to fall off and really need one on general xc/single track are few and far between. that doesnt mean to say should you ever fall off whilst wearing one you wont be grateful you had it, but in terms of the pros vs the cons, a regular lid is far better overall.

There are lots of arguments for and against, you only need to browse the previous thread (which ended up pretty circular). I you wanted something to push you towards a full face check out the pics on page 5 of the thread.

I take pablo's point about a full face but i think it depends on the weather, the helmet and you. Personally i ride with a full face and it really doesn't bother me at all in summer or winter. I like the "The One" helmets... different graphics and cool on the head but it's personal preference. Check out the link.
