So me and my cycling buddy fancy taking a week off at the end of the summer to go on a little cycling holiday. We'll probably hire a campervan or a people carrier and bung a couple of tents in it.

Anyone done this? Suggested routes etc?

We always stay at one of the camp sites at the bottom of Alpe d'Huez (La Cascade). There are others all over the place in the 'Parc d'Ecrins'. La Cascade is only about 1.5k from the small town of Bourg d'Oisans, (featured in quite a few of the last stage starts in the Tour). The camp site has loads of pitches for tents/caravans as well as chalets. Apart from Alpe d'huez itself, there's a selection of climbs to do. Col du Lauteret, Col du Telegraph, the Galibier, the Glandon, Col d'Ornon, all within a 50 - 60 km radius. Easily the best cycling to be had in the Alpes. But, be warned, it gets very busy with traffic as well as cyclists.
