In a fit of activity I bought a mountain bike about 18 months ago. It saw about 20 miles use, none of which is offroad, before I tore my knee playing football. Going in for the op next week and I'm told it would be unlikely I'll be mountain biking anytime soon after. So, given the previous lack of use I thought I might as well sell it and buy some DVDs and chocolate. Trouble is I have no idea how much it is worth now and ebay is throwing up blanks.

Its a mid 2008 Boardman Pro MTB. I was told at the time the components were excellent (Avid juicy 7 disc brakes, SPD pedals, Rock Shox REBA forks, SRAM shifter/gears (I think) but I was pretty out of touch with the MTB market at the time. Its in good condition as it has lived its life in the garage - a couple of very small marks and one of the discs seems to be binding very slightly.

Any ideas?

It was through the cycle to work scheme, so I'm not 100% sure. Think it was around £1k.

Will have been £1k. All the stuff on it is current bar the crank and brakes, so it's not outdated, at a guess... In mint condition about £4-£500...1/2 cost is always a decent file of thumb

it's a great bike

Thanks. 50% of new price seems pretty sensible for both the buyer and seller.

So... aside from fleabay - where is good to sell a bike?

How well do you think it would fit someone 5'9" (which is the question I should have asked first time smile)

I'm not sure - I think I remember it being a 19 or 20" frame if that helps. You are welcome to come and had a try if you ever come into London.

Insurance companies depreciate bikes at 30% year 1, then 10% per year thereafter.

The good news is that as you bought it through Cycle 2 Work you will have saved at least 40% on cost anyway via tax savings. So if you sell it from 50% of full cost you will actually not be loosing much money at all.
