Nobbly Nic Tyre Sizes
Discussion
Hi, just about to buy a set of Nobbly Nics (front) and Racing Ralph (rear) for my Stumpjumper FSR and wondering what size will be best. I'm thinking either 2.25 (or 2.1) on the front and 2.1 (or maybe 2.25 as well) on the rear. What's the generally thinking? Go larger on the front? or will matching size be good? I understand that these tyres offer the best combination of speed and grip. I'm after speed and grip equally. Or should I be thinking other tyre sizes? Any advice would be welcomed.

They come up very narrow, so go for a size bigger than you think. I've got them on my stumpy in 2.1, but they look more like 1.8s!
yerp, if it was me on a full susser i would go for the 2.25.Assumption being made that you are riding a stumpy not to win races but to enjoy hacking around whatever the UK can throw at you.... if the assumption is ill-founded...
FWIW most peeps seems to really like nobby nics, but i didn't. Fast rolling for sure but the front tyre didn't really have enough 'bite' for faster corners. Could have something to do with the rider mind!
No idea if you've pulled the trigger yet, but, I've just swapped my winter set up to some Nobby Nic's in 2.25 size, in preparation for the race last weekend at Ae Forest and for going tubeless when the Hope Hoops/Stans ZTR flow rims come back in stock. Whilst they are a narrower carcass than say Kenda's, they're roughly the same as Maxxi's 2.35's, but the all important thing is that they do grip, especially when you get a good angle of lean and in the dry. I had to play with tyre pressures on the front to get them to between 32-33 for more front end grip, as at 35 they appeared a little sketchy to me (but I came from a Super Tacky Minion DHF front, so anything would really). Their wet weather performance is not as good as the Maxxi's. I stacked a jump in the wet when I took off from a rooty section when I wouldn't have expected to have done so on the Minion. They roll really well (I need all the help I can get for uphill/long fire road sections), so I would say a very good compromise tyre all in all.
I paid top dollar for them sadly, mainly due to lack of time, but I believe better deals are to be had from Merlin.
