Do people that ride both use different helmets on each? Do they make any difference?

Yeah there is a difference, the road ones are generally lighter, don't have a visor and have more ventilation

I have an MTB one and use that all the time though

The the main difference is the lack of peak.

If in the drops whilst wearing a mountain bike helmet, forward vision is compromised when looking "upwards" to look forwards, as the peak hinders your view.

I once read that a lot was to do with the shape of the vents. Shorter longitudunal vents would mean a lesser chance of branches penetrating/being guided into your scalp.

I've got one of each.

I'm pretty sure that you don't really need two though.
