I re-started cycling a few months back, and I've bought myself a new (modern) hybrid for my Sunday long distance rides (long for me - 30+ miles now). Now I fancy something that a fat-42yo can play with. A replacement for the BMX I had in the 1980s (Skyway TA). I can't get away with riding a BMX these days but I want something for wheelies, and generally messing about when I'm with my young boy. Spuddy tyres, 26" wheels, that sort of thing.

It's got to be strong enough for low drops (I'm heavy - about 16 stone). I'm thinking maybe a short top tubed hardtail but I'm open to suggestions.

BTW, I absolutely love the "show your bikes" thread. I **so** love the look of full-on downhill bikes. Impractical for me though I suspect... but I am watching a few on Ebay. smile

Hey Mars,

If your looking for a 'downhill' looking bike but want it to do other stuff etc. you won't do far wrong with a Commencal 'Supreme Mini DH'

It will do xc really well and is great fun when it gets rough going down. I have one and it's a 2007 Mini DH.

Sunday Model C would be perfect, it is basically an upscaled 20" BMX to 24", Sunday say it's not a cruiser, more of a bruiser!

The big BMXs looks fun but I'd always wish I'd just gone and bought another Skyway. I'm not physically too big for a BMX - I sold mine when I was 20yo and had been using it infrequently until then. I just think the age/fatness would make me look dafter than a fat 42yo looks normally.

The mini DH bike looks interesting but BOY they're expensive. There's one on Ebay at £800 at the mo. I'll watch it a while and see what it goes for. I need to sell my drums before I can afford anyway, so I'm just gathering ideas at the mo. Going to try and make it a Christmas prez for myself.

Thanks for the ideas chaps.
