Just got a nice scanner, so expect to start seeing loads of my old pics on here now.
Anyways, heres a nice pic of the california kid from about late 80's.

What has happened to this car ? Surely the nfaa are desperate for this kind of machine ?

Or have I missed something ?

Clive is still around with the car, brings it out every now and then. It is ususally at non-permit meets, I believe the chassis doesn't quite meet current spec but I may be wrong - Motor Psycho will know more.

the chassis and most of the SFI saftey equipment is/was out of date but theres rumours of a rebuild for next years in NFAA competition, did notice in TopNitro's photos from the Bulldog Bash he was sporting a pair of Convo Pro Beadlock rear wheels opposed to the old centrelines which weren't SFi tagged....so maybe, hopefully we'll see Clive bck out next year and on a good track low 6s should be on the cards

Very nice pic - with your permission we would like to add it to our files...

We have been talking to Clive for about two years, since the start of the NFAA.

When the formation of the Association was first floated, there were a few people who doubted if it would happen, citing past attempts that did not succeed. We understood that, talk is cheap and I have a degree in scepticism with a masters in conspiracy theory !! Having said that, there were an awful lot that expressed support and encouragement.

But some people underestimated the committment and drive of Ollie and myself - if we take something on, we do not do it lightly and we make sure that it happens. It's a bit like the Martin Luther King speech - 'I have a dream'.

From just a few stalwarts, the NFAA has grown to 12 teams to date and next year is going to be even better... with what we know about what is being built, it should be spectacular.

Clive has contacted the Tech Committee and a visit to advise him will take place shortly and we fully expect him to bring the modified 'Hot Rod From Hell' back to the tracks and a welcome addition it will be. To quote Bear - "We like nitro, we dont need nitro, but we do like nitro"

Now got to prepare for the National Finals next weekend, if any of you are around, come and say hi.

Lawrie, feel free to use the pic, its one of my faves...just wish I could do the same my new digi cam !

Good luck to Clive, would be great to see the car out again.
From a rusty memory, wasnt there another car he used to match race at Avon Park ?

Congrats on the whole NFAA thing, I think you've all done brilliantly in such a short time.
I think the altereds are the show we have been missing for a while......

Mail me if you want the hi res version.....

Clive Mechaell (correct spelling)

way back when (from internet and videos, I'm too young to remember) he used to match race against Rob Turner's 'Straight Shooter' alky altered before they went top methanol, then Clive raced against the fuel floppers, sometimes putting the Funny Car body on but more often than not the 23 T was on the car, and the occasional use of the '34 Ford body that we now have

Clive was at the recent Bulldog Bash in mid-august and here's a shot of him launching away from the line. The crowd loved it (all 50,000 yes, 50,000 of them)

Yea they are SFI rated. Basically really thick carbon x masks with built in re-breathers. Get yourself a pair of fighter goggles and a open faced helmet and you have nostalgia straight off.

I might get one for the altered, depends if we go nitro or not

Actually, when you run a closed body car, as Clive's is, you have to have a helmet connected to an air supply, just like in AA/FC......

Well i never knew that ... plenty of fresh air with a open bodied car. Kinda glad we didn't enclose the topo, i can get claustrophobic bowtie
