Wow... what an end to the season!!!
Tony Schumacher needed to go 1 round further that Doug Kalitta, plus set a new national record to overtake him and clinch the championship!
Well, Doug lost on a holeshot in round 3 to Melanie Troxel leaving her to face Tony in the final!
I stayed up watching the results last night , but fell asleep before the finals! When I checked the results just now, I nearly choked.... The 'Shoe' did it... won the final round and unbelievably set a new world ET record of 4.428, clinching the championship by just 14 points!
I thought that he had blown his chance to set any records following the hoo-har in qualifying! Schumacher was to face Kalitta in the 4th session on Saturday night, but was told to shut off due to a leak! However, he ignored the starter and inevitably went up in smoke, earning the team a $20k fine in the process!
Without that damned leak though, I reckon we might have seen a dip into the 4.30's as the conditions were perfect!

In Funnny Car, John Force took his 14th championship in round 2 by defeating Ron Capps!
He won the final round on a holeshot against Jack Beckman who set new records for speed and ET!!!

Andrew Hines held on for another championship in PSB, but only just! He redlit in round 1, leaving it wide open to Antron Brown! However Brown couldn't get past the next round, handing the championship to Hines by just 23 points!

Jason Line Took the Pro Stock Championship in Vegas after defeating Mr. Anderson!

Roll on 2007!!!

Like you mark I was following it and it really was close. Its been a long time since sombody has had to win the event and set a world record to win any of the world championships. Somebody will probably prove me wrong but the only other time I can remember was Bob Glidden in 1980. Glidden led the points chase only once all year and on the last day of the season he entered the season finale in Ontario, California trailing the Lee Shepherd-driven Reher-Morrison Chevy Camaro by two rounds. He caught a huge break when Shepherd's transmission broke in the second round. Glidden went on to win the race, setting low e.t. and top speed in his final-round victory over Frank Iaconio. That was my first NHRA race and it was amazing to watch the fight for the world championship unfold.

I was keeping a close eye on Alcohol Dragster as an acquaintance of mine, Dave Hirata runs an injected nitro dragster. He was in the 22nd position going into the final qualifying session, with a 5.65 best. He stepped up at the right time running a 5.28 for the number 1 position!
In the semi’s he was against Spencer Massy, did the burn out and could not get reverse, no matter what Dave or the crew tried, so he had to drive it through. Spencer lost to Bill Reichert in the final.
What a thrilling final, which is featured on channel 5 this week.

It's been pretty much admitted that Greg thought it was Jasons turn to win it. Lets face it compared to the rest of the field Jason has been very hit and miss on the tree and the car has saved him.

Greg's co crew-cheif announced he was leaving at the weekend, how much affect will this have on the KB racing team?

We were pitted 3 away from Greg at NHRA's Richmond Virginia national race in October. Both Greg and Jason worked on each others car and the general feeling appeared good. Hes a determined racer, after all it pays for his life style, but once the championship was out of his grasp, and he knew that at Richmond, he appeared genuinely pleased for Jason.
One other thing, hes really good with the fans. The first weekend was rained out, NHRA called it Saturday lunchtime, but anytime I went by he was there signing autographs, when the majority of other Pro teams had packed up.

Just finished looking at the Pomona channel 5 recording from early this morning. I had read about Del Worshams trip into the sand and subsequent roll but it looked as though whilst the car was going end over end it went over the catch fence. They then got out TWO chassis to decide which one Del was more comfortable with. Amazing
