I know this is an old thread, but thought I'd Resurrect, given that type R prices seem to be going crazy.
What is the difference between the type r and type s engine - and how much work would it take to achieve similar power outputs from the type s engine as the type r?
Type R has K20A2, the non-JDM full fat output. What is the difference between the type r and type s engine - and how much work would it take to achieve similar power outputs from the type s engine as the type r?
Type S has K20A3, that has lower compression, lower redline (6800rpm), lower VTEC engagement 2300rpm, oh and only a 5-speed box.
This engine included the low speed improvements found in the D16 VTEC-E units used in the cooking engined EP2 models.
Therefore you can't upgrade without swapping the engine and gearbox, US modders go straight to swapping the bottom end of a K24.
