I'm looking for a newer car due to a change in job. I'm selling my EP3 CTR to make way but want to stay with the brand. I've found a nice looking 2010 Accord 2.2 DTEC with 100,000 miles.

What are these like reliability wise?

I took a 2009 Accord Tourer 2.2 DTEC from 50,000 to 80,000 miles.

It was faultless. It was quite fond of front tyres (12,000 miles roughly) but apart from that I only replaced brake pads.

It still felt tight when it left and I only sold it due to the arrival of a caravan (I had an auto and the towing limit is a poor 1100kg or so).

I think they're underrated and while a 3 series might drive better the whole package of the Accord won me over.

www.hondakarma.com has a good Accord board if you want a good heads up on what to look for.

I'd have a Type S if my circumstances changed.

I've got a '10 Type S Tourer. Ive had it 2 years and 25k and it's just sailed through another mot. It had cheap tyres on it when I had it but they were terrible especially in the wet but a set of Contis and it's alot better. It's resonably swift, quiet and comfortable go with plenty of kit. On paper it's not as good mpg wise as the Germans but if I drive carefully on the motorway I can get mid 50s with normal driving sort of mid 40s.

I had an Accord 2.2 DTEC from new for 3 yrs back in 2005-6. Engine was fine, but suspension needed rebuilt, wheels corroded and aircon/satnav section of the dash needed replaced 3 times. Possibly just "one of those cars", but don't assume everything works 'cos its a Honda. Check it carefully before you buy it.
Note: Local Honda dealership were fantastic in dealing with all of this, though. I was on first name terms with them :-)

Just my tuppence worth, and I accept that my car was very likely to be the exception to the rule, but better safe than sorry.

I've got a 59 reg ex Gt tourer.
So far in 25k and 2 years I've had a leaking shock and blown speaker. Both fixed under warranty.
I actually really like it. It has 71k on it now and is very cheap to own. I had a vw t5 before which was a money pit so in contrast this is great. I get 600 to 680 miles to a tank of diesel.
Think common issues are dpf and dmf.
Would also get type s if I was choosing now. So much so I have been looking at remaps recently.

Had this one for coming up to 12 months / ~10k miles. It's on ~160k now. 2010 car.

Very reliable so far. Nothing broken that I can think of. I think its due a fly-wheel and clutch because occasionally there is a very noticeable judder when pulling away. Those wheels were added by the previous owner new from Honda. He explained how he had cared for them (I've no reason to doubt him), and I have continued this as much as I can (using some pink wheel sealant product - poorboys?). Despite this two of them are corroding. Incidentally, avoid wheels with 20 spokes as they are a pig to clean! Paint is apparently very soft as the front bumper has more than its fair share of stone chips. Some are known for using a bit of oil apparently, can't say this one has been too bad however.

I average low 40s mpg according to computer, although this seems to be slightly pessimistic and in reality always turns out to be slightly higher than indicated. Best I've ever seen was 48mpg. Never chanced going much over 600miles to a tank. ~35min commute on stop-start A-roads.

Load-lugging is severely compromised (compared to what you might expect) by wheel arch intrusion and the shape of the hatch - top corners are cut of quite a bit. Fantastic stereo IMO (no expert). Sat-nav useful but interface is naf. Bluetooth works for phone calls but not music which I didn't appreciate when buying.

Good to see the discussion on going.

As the OP, I'll give an update. I didn't buy a Honda in the end but I stayed with a Jap car. I've got a 2013 Mazda 6, 2.2d with the higher power output. Very happy so far.

This is a common Accord fault. I fitted aftermarket (Pioneer) speakers to mine as the Honda parts are expensive and very poor.

You need adapter rings for them to fit but the upgrade was definitely worth it.

I was seriously thinking about ditching a 57 plate 2.2 Ex for a later shape Type-S, the reviews on rear leg room and compromised load space have put me off. The dpf was another thing.

Anyone made the same change, is the legroom that limited in the back? I have two kids in booster seats which doesn't help. I do fancy the idea of a chipped Type-S, I suppose you could always remove the pdf if needed.

My kids were 7 and 5 when I ran the Accord, there were no issues with rear legroom at all (it's no Skoda Superb in the back but it's big enough).

I had a Tourer so access to the load space was also good, the rear suspension turrets intrude quite a bit into the load area though.

The If I can Accord was noticeably better than the 7th gen Accord I had.
