I have to admit I think they look horrible - like somebody has covered the car in superglue and ramraided Halfords.
Whilst I will happily accept that the looks of the car aren't for everyone, putting that aside for one moment, the 'crashed through Halfords window' insult is beyond cliché, beyond parody and beyond tired. Much same as those who say "you owe me a new keyboard" or "just spat coffee all over my keyboard" when they read something they find funny.

It IS horrible though. I'm a big fan of japanese cars but their recent designs are carp. Kia seem to be the only company in the Far east doing "nice looking" cars. It's annoying when, technically, they're generally very good.
I'm a massive Honda fan having had both a Type R and an S2000 so I think this is brilliant - far better than the last model which I didn't think looked right from the rear 3/4 backwards.
Yes, it looks absurd and they probably won't sell that many but at least Honda have actually had the balls to think outside the box and create something which people are talking about and which divides opinion.
Much better IMO than the "R's" "M's" and "S/RS's" which VW, BMW and Audi seem to be churning out at the moment. I'm not saying these aren't great cars because they are, but they're all a bit.....meh. And that's coming from an (ex) M235i owner.
I'd love to drive one.

Agree - given the previous versions looked similar except for minor styling and badges, they probably drafted a few designs like that and then thought "fk it" and went all-out. As you say, if somebody wants a fast car that doesn't stand out (and looks bland) there are plenty of German models to buy.Yes, it looks absurd and they probably won't sell that many but at least Honda have actually had the balls to think outside the box and create something which people are talking about and which divides opinion.

Nice. Got a test drive of a blue one for over an hour on Saturday and was amazed at how good it was and how much of a step on it was over the FK2 which was also pretty good. This one is more refined, clear distinction between each of the modes, ratios seemed a bit shorter and the rev matching works well too. No torque steer and has no issue putting power down. I really want one as my next car but tempted to wait to see how it sells or if any deals come up. The only issue with Japanese manufacturers is the deals never seem that great but with this who knows.
I want one of these (I think). But when I went into the local dealer at the weekend with my son, I was told I needed to put down £500 deposit for insurance purposes and give them at least 24 hours notice if I wanted a test drive. Even though the car was just sat there on the forcourt and the sales guys weren't exactly rushed off their feet. Perhaps they thought I was a time waster, I did mention that I wasn't going to do anything until the new RS Megane was shown at Frankfurt next week...
ETA: Whereas I've rocked up at Porsche, Lotus and other brands and had a test drive straight away with no issues. Was given a V6 Exige for a long weekend a couple of years ago (and ended up ordering one!)

Me getting a test drive went like this:
Me: "Hi, I was wondering do you have a brochure for the new Type-R?"
Salesman: Yes
Me: "yes"
Me: "Hi, I was wondering do you have a brochure for the new Type-R?"
Salesman: Yes
- 5mins of talking about specs and how it differs from the Fk2*
Me: "yes"
- 5mins going through how I'm responsible for it on the drive etc*

Mine arrived at the dealer on Friday, and I am picking it up tomorrow.
Congrats! Let us know how it goes (a Readers Cars thread would be cool)I wonder if they will ever do an auto version. They say it's manual only to keep the pure driving experience, but I wonder if it's actually because they don't have a suitable transmission to put in it. I can't think of any other auto Honda, sold anywhere, that could lend its transmission to this car.
