I've read that 19's are just too harsh. 18's a good balance. It's just on the right side of firm with 18's. Weird- lots of the engine burn no oil, loads don't at all and there's no reason why some do and some don't.

The type/grade of oil seems to have a lot to do with how much is burned, it really is pot luck.
I use Fuchs Titan 5w40 but many seem to be recommending shell helix (sp), Castrol, some even 10w60.

My fn2 is currently for sale as I fancy an fd2, though it's a very bad time of year to sell a car. Stick with it OP, all used cars require maintenance / wear and tear items replaced. I've bought two front suspension top Mount bearings for mine today, £70 from Honda which I also won't recoup if the car sells.

I am fairly sure my car has the Honda standard 0w30 in it - so at service time I will get it changed to 5w40 to see.

I think it's probably the right move, I am just worried that the car hides other secrets and the engine grenades itself in a fortnights time.
