I thought its about time I stuck some pics up of my old Crx"s on the Honda page I have owned these a few years now , I have owned some pretty nice cars in my time and got bored and sold them on, genuinely dont think I will ever sell either of these both are sooooooo much fun to drive.

the Crx race car was originally a challenge car and has evolved quite a lot from the original D16 to a B16 them B18, then Built B18c6 and now a hi compression K20 running uprated cams and Itbs, built close ratio gearbox with Spoon plated diff, the body has been extensively lightened where ever possible.

my other crx is a totally standard 1.6 vtec (other than the wheels I have them in storage but much prefer the fat5's ) it is pretty much immaculate, rust free and now only gets to come out on dry days.

if of any interest there is a build diary of the two cars on Instagram @jeff_cooper_49

and there is plenty of in car footage of the race car at my you tube page https://www.youtube.com/user/jeffc1970/videos?view...

Very nice. The reason I actually got into Hondas is because a guy at the end of my road when I was a kid had a red CRX, I loved that so much.

Very nice, the VT looks in seriously good condition, looks like re trimmed leathers?. Personally I would have to get rid of the fat fives though, never thought they looked quite right on a CRX, (but ok on the EG VTi ) . A nice set of Racing sparco NS11 in charcoal grey would look neat on it.

Hope you have the inside of those arches and sills waxoyled to the max!.

Very nice Jeff - I had CRX's in the 90's, first an E reg 1.6i 16v, then an H reg VTEC. Great cars. Would still have the VTEC if a lorry hadn't driven over the top of it on the M25...
The seats were amazing for the time - am I right in thinking that leather was a UK only thing - JDM cars didn't get leather?
I commuted 90 miles a day for a few years - 40mpg was easy, combined with a good thrash at the weekend. Such a great package, what with the full double wishbone suspension...
My NSX is like their grown-up brother...

the standard Vtec wheels look pretty awful though and as much as I like it to look standard I personally prefer the fat5s, it came with some black 16" wheels when I bought it and it looked well but the first thing i did was take them off . I have recently managed to get hold of an original radio cassette so it is now only the wheels that are not original .

yes the uk Vt was the only model to get leather, JDM SIR which is the top model came with cloth , I had my seats recovered, when I got the car they were scruffy with a few tears although compared to others I have seen since they were prob quite good ! I touched a few bits up around the bodywork earlier this year to get it to the condition it is now in including replacing the sunroof which are like hens teeth to get hold of, luckily my race car had a rust free one as it has never been used on the road it has never seen salt and I replaced the complete roof on that car for one from an sir so no sunroof to reduce more weight. while I was doing the road car I had it up in the air and wire brushed all the underneath off undersealed it and at the same time removed the inside trim and filled all the cavities with waxoil and it will now only come out in nice weather so hopefully it will stay in the condition it is now.

the CRX Vtec was a remarkable car back in the day, I could never afford one when I was a kid back in the late 80"s early 90s and my 1.9 205 gtis couldnt get near the one my pal owned no matter how hard I tried and we used to try hard !!

even today not sure many modern offerings will achieve the fuel consumption and deliver the performance that the old hondas could, my last tank over the summer doing runs to the coast it managed 48mpg when I worked it out, sadly the other CRX only manages single figures biggrinbiggrin

The B18 in the YouTube vid sounded lovely (up til it’s demise)

What was the spec if you don’t mind me asking?

Lovely motors there.

I had s 92 White CRX VT and loved every minute of it.
That wail from the engine on VTEC was so addictive. Such a great looking car too.

Testament to you keeping a nice example!!

Here’s the one I had. It was a mint example too.
Excuse the Venoms, I was young and stupid and putting silly size wheels was the thing back in the 90’s. I did have the originals though.

Venoms were the in thing, I had mim rafinos on my 205 gti I look back now and cringe yikes

crystal ball but had you kept that it would prob be worth as much today as it was back then, prices are climbing quickly on Crx's there has been one or two mint low mileage examples achieved close to new price in classic auctions !

at the time of the video the B18 was running high compression, skunk 2 t2 cams skunk valves/springs and 54mm throttle boddies, power was circa 240bhp. was quick but a huge mistake tuning the motor, it had raced for years in standard guise with a decent exhaust and manifold at 210bhp and never missed a beat , once I upped the compression it always ran hot , used oil and eventually threw a rod out the side frown the K20 is the way to go other than it doesn't sound as nice as the old B but makes very good power and just does it with no dramas.

Always the way when chasing power I guess.

My last ITR had the usual Mugen breathing mods & that released just shy of 200bhp once remapped. Revved to a true 8700 and made the same power on the limiter as the pre-remap peak!!

It was ideal for a road engine & made me question why anyone would ever change the cams for a road application

A lot to be said for keeping it simple...

The K20 sounds strong- even better when you have 6 gears to keep it singing.

Have you factored any rebuilds in given it’s a bit of a revver?

the K20 engine when I fitted it had done circa 150k in the doner car, I popped a new chain on changed the oil and in it went. did 2 seasons racing and a boat load of track days and never hiccupped once , start of this year I did a comp test and was even and across the cylinders, I had chance of a skimmed ported and polished head so I got a 3 angle cut on the valves and a set of uprated valve springs and clapped it back together and along with a new design exhaust system and it made a decent increase in power so tbh I will just run it this way til it drops, which hopefully will be a long time as it doesnt smoke or drip oil. worst case I will get another motor as K20 motors are much cheaper now than when I did the Kswap years ago, full swaps can be had for as little as £800 which I think are a bargain for the power they make, I highly rate the motors, I can sit for 20mins at over 9,000rpm on 30degree race days and it doesnt get hot, I dont even have to run an oil cooler, The B18 had a huge cooler and would still see 150degrees all the time.

B18c6 would win everytime on noise and character of the engine though.

Top job- can fully understand your reasoning given the reliability.

Says aot for the K20 with the sustained RPM it pulls on track with the shorter gearing
