Calling all fk8 owners, not many of these cars for sale locally so have been doing as much research on the cars before travelling 4+ hours to view / test drive.

Couple of reviews have said the standard exhaust can be a bit droney / high road noise whilst on motorway, any owners agree with this?

Currently have a dc5 integra and also a 1 year old! Wanting something alot more refined but still fun to drive, currently feel like I'm deafening the poor lad in the back of the integra, modulating the throttle to battle the drone, though admittedly it does have an after market exhaust which obviously doesn't help.

I know the answer is to test drive but owner opinions welcomed.

Many thanks

Not quite the same but I have a DC5 weekend car and a FK7 as a family car. The FK7 is a proper refined modern car, where the DC5 is like stepping back in time. Huge difference in road noise and ride quality. DC5 has very little sound deadening and is very tinny inside. Any modern car would be a big step forward, but that's kind of the point of the weekend DC5.

I have been to Scotland a few times in my FK8 and hardly ever notice the sound of the exhaust unless I'm caning it. I would say there is more tyre noise depending on the road surface.

Oem exhaust is quiet, no issues there. As mentioned lots of tyre noise.

Another vote for the OE exhaust, its fine.Tyre noise much more prominent on the motorway. An FK8 is a fine cruiser if you want that as well as a brilliant scratcher.

You can further reduce any exhaust / backbox noise on the FK8 with some simple sound deadening - Under the rear seat bench and under the boot floor (Even adding a boot carpet helps a bit)

Mostly tyre noise though; Dropping to 18s helps.

Just to update this, I went for it and have owned my Rallye red fk8 for the past month or so, and as you guys said OEM exhaust is definitely quite which I am happy with and although tyre roar is noticeable I can live with it.

The car itself is very impressive, really quick and as long as your doing over 2krpm, takes off in any gear which after the teg is a revelation!

Only slight disappointment is traction when planting it in 2nd, need to learn to modulate the throttle i guess, though car is still on continentals and seem to hear good things about ps4's so may be worth trying these when the continentals need replacing.

For what I wanted, something much more refined but still fun I think the car is perfect.

As for the teg, unfortunately it is still parked up outside my house, I know I need to sell it, I know I don't have time to drive both cars, but I love that car, just taken it out for quick run after not driving it for a while and it just has me grinning ringing it's neck out, I seem to drive the fk8 riding the torque and the teg chasing the red line.

Think I'm still getting to know the fk8, I have a van for work and alot of the time the little 1 is in the back so chances to drive it hard are rare but on the few times I have, the car feels phenomenally quick, fairly light but at the same time solid and composed. I'm sure it's a keeper 😀
