I am in VERY mixed minds about that evo article proclaiming the 'teg the best FWD car ever. I always knew it was, and was quietly spreading the gospel, but now... rolleyes

I've been promising myself another 'teg for about 6 months now. Still not quite in a position where it's a sensible buy for me, but fed up of waiting and really want one. And I saw the perfect car on the PH classifieds earlier this week - black, low-miles, mint, FHSH and aircon. So I made an enthusiastic enquiry...but no quick answer forthcoming. Couple of calls to the mobile were no good as it was switched off with no answerphone. So I was getting itchy - I could see how good it was.

Well, I got a response last night - the owner's been innundated with offers, some sight-unseen, some asking-price-plus-donation-of-his-choice-to-charity-of-his-choice!!! eek

A year ago the 'teg was a well-kept secret known only to pukka Jap-spec petrolheads plus a few others. Now it's flavour of the feckin' month and everyone wants one, and I bet not all the buyers want one to drive as it's meant to be driven, and some won't treat it nicely and take care of it - there's probably some collectors and some 'chavs' in there too!

DAMN YOU EVO!!! Now I can't get another 'teg!!! banghead cry

What, you mean...slum it in a CTR?!? [voiceover from the police advert last year]No, I couldn't do that![voiceover]

Note to self: Must stop upsetting CTR owners...there's more of them! hehe

Maybe a DC5, it's younger and heavier. Looks good too.

Drove one two years ago. Not in the same league.

Besides, weight is your enemy (as are McPherson struts, poor steering feedback and an overly-aggressive diff).

This ISN'T a "what car" thread. I've done that to death when I sold the DC2. Nothing else will scratch that particular itch, I want a good DC2 (UK spec, aircon, FSH, good physical condition...and ideally black).

But thanks for the thoughts...

All I can say is thankyou EVO! I've just sold my Integra through Pistonheads and I can't believe how much interest I had. If you are looking to sell, now is a good time obviously

Aha...an offer in writing. I do believe that is legally binding Mr. Stew-TypeR!

Where can I collect from? hehe

Oh...and ITR has a point...in 12 months prices will have 'relaxed' again. So if you're thinking about a new car and have no intention of keeping your 'teg for ages, then I'd sell in the first half of this year, while the evo-mag hype is still going. Make selling a lot easier, almost regardless of condition.

So...anyone got a sensible-mileage ITR for sale with good history and condition?!?

That was my thinking. After 6 happy years of ownership I wanted to sell and Evo's excellent coverage of late couldn't have been better timed.

just in jest mate, think nothing of it.

im well aware that now would be the best time to sell, but im more than happy to keep mine because of the very reasons evo rated it so highly.

havoc- sorry mate, lol.

But it's mine all mine! Actually even my skyline owning mate is giving the 'teg the respect it deserves these days!

Without reading in detail (cos I'm going home) how about going rarer and sourcing a Civic EK9 - A JDM Type-R ?

Thought about that, but:-
1) It's JDM only...hence insurance, parts...
2) It's suspension is less-suited to UK B-roads...which ARE my favourite haunts.
3) It's engine is EVEN PEAKIER!!!
4) It doesn't look as good.

Mine (see profile) has done 116k miles. But I've replaced the springs and dampers, all the suspension bushes, all the engine mounts and the gearbox and LSD. I can honestly say that it feels as taught as when it left the factory. It's a superb driving machine.

THAT is my other thought...get an old one for £6k or less, change everything you mention (probably £4k of cost sadly...I did the sums before when I was considering keeping mine 18mths ago), and then gradually 'upgrade' the engine - skim head, new head-gasket, new piston rings, Fujitsubo exhaust (apparently they do one which sounds sensible pre-VTEC then goes absolutely bonkers when the fun starts) or similar, and if I'm feeling rich throttle-bodies and maybe stage-2 cams.

But it'll actually cost a few £'000 more than just getting a good one, and sadly I don't think buyers will look further than the mileage when assessing asking price, so most of it will be dead money, whereas a low-mileage one will hold value a lot longer.

Easier and quicker route back into 'quality' 'teg ownership, but ultimately more expensive...
