RE: Honda Civic Type R goes on sale
Discussion
I think it looks quite smart. In this day and age though 197bhp and 145lb of torque is a bit low.
I know 0-60 etc is still good but in the real world I cant see it being able to live with the turbo'd hatches as it will be so down on torque, before the CTR was a lot lighter than rivals now its lost that advantage.
We will see though.

Hmm. Reading this thread reminded me of an old Sinff Petrol article from a while back, referring to the old CTR.
I post this in good spirit and it is meant in jest, before any 22-year old Type-R fans start slagging off my particular choice of car - at least I drove the bugger before I ordered it...

There was good news for Honda this week with the release of the Motor Industry National Guild of Expert's latest figures for new car sales to w*nkers. The British-built hot hatch has secured a remarkable lead over its nearest rivals by entering the complete bell-end sales top ten for the first time, straight in at number two. 'The Civic Type-R has been selling well for a while now,' noted one industry observer. 'But this new chart position is something much more significant. It means the Honda has really become a complete nobber's favourite and that if you encounter a Type-R on the road you will probably notice that the driver is a total penis. Of course, driving like a cock isn't enough. This new ranking has been bolstered by other activities, in particular the hyper aggressive defence of the car on one-make internet discussion boards and a refusal to acknowledge that it isn't necessarily the best hot hatch in the entire world. Honda must be delighted. That really is the kind of utterly ttty behaviour you just can't buy.

CAR mag was delivered yesterday and they reckon (although last months edition gave it a dressing down, very odd) that the new CIVC Type R is the new GTi King.
Sorry if I just spoilt someones log read!!
I was also at a dealers, looking at current Type R, and picked up the spec on the new one, still no dealer knows the exact price of the new one.
Anyway, up until now I have been a bit disappointed in the new one, looks like any of the others nothing special, I am sure if you spec the Type R decals on the side, maybe, maybe I might spot the difference. I hope people are nodding their heads at this point
My main reason for dissapointment was we were shown this yellow and white monster at the shows and now you can buy it in the usual silver, red, black and brown, wow thanks Honda, didn't realise brown was in the Honda racing colours, maybe in Jensons underpants when he crossed the line just before his great win!!
BUT then as I got to the options part I found the car with the larger 19s and the, now again not sure if this is a Lost in Translation moment, but the colour coded front and rear skirt, but the front skirt (lower jaw) has changed and been painted black. So the red main colour and this black lower jaw line looks nice and agressive "sporty", it even look bullbogish as the gapping hole is now split by to angled bars, looking like teeth.
MAD HE'S GONE MAD.
I'll try and get a pictur up at somepoint so you can see what I mean but this example looks like.
Don't get me wrong the Type R will sell (and is already selling ask any dealer to show you their sales so far) and CAR Magazine have just bolstered that for them, but come on Honda stop showing off the duff brown turd get out the bulldog (it's half British anyway)!!

Full road test in today's Autocar.
Their verdict?
For: High-revving VTEC engine, cheaper than main rivals, fine seats and driving position
Against: Not that fast, excessive body roll, short on handling finesse, poor rear visibility
AUTOCAR VERDICT
On the right road, when you're in the mood, there's much to like about the latest Civic Type R. Once you're rowing through the gears and listening to that remarkable engine, you'd forgive it a lot. But this is still a disappointing car overall, with a chassis that is exposed by the retrograde rear suspension. Like the manic Astra VXR, Type R will have its fans, but we aren't among them.
Still a stunning engine, still a flawed package (3.5 stars)

Not that far from the evo review that I read yesterday morning (as soon as it arrived!).

Mine hasn't arrived yet.
Put my deposit down last week and due for delivery end of April, early May. I specced every option including rear facing camera engaged during reversing and viewed on the satnav screen. I just love gadgets Test drove the R GT and was very impressed but then I haven't driven a prvious Type_R so don't have a basis to compare. I was somewhat apprehensive about the weight-compromised choice of rear suspension but in fairness it handled pretty well though it would need to be track-day'd to explore that more comprehensively. In fact I felt this car was just desparate to get out on the track and I would really like to explore what it had to offer in that environment which is so far from everyday driving in our local pox-riddled and congested roads. I did find the steering wheel set rather low (or the seat set rather high) but having just stepped out from a 150 mile blat in the TVR I guess that was always going to feel rather awkward. The ride was less choppy that I had anticipated although I guess I'm going to find out more about that with the 19" factory-fit Rage alloys I ordered. Whatever criticism about the portly statistics of the new Type R, the V-TEC felt very responsive and power delivery was both progressive and urgent at rpm my v8 only dreams about. It's clearly going to be one of those cars that only comes into its own when you're pushing on but having said that I found that it was very pleasant to drive in traffic. The tinny sound system's going to need a serious upgrade.

Mine will have that too!! I'm going to the dealers tomorrow to sign all the paperwork.
We'd better hurry if that bunch of tossers calling themselves Brake have their way, we'll be going back to the days when pokey lit-up amber fingers flipped out of the door frame to indicate when you want to turn. Taking the thrust of their distraction argument that causes them to want to ban any in-car electronics, even hands-free calls in the car, how long will it be before they want to ban conversation with your passenger - hang on a minute that means Mrs Hut wouldn't be able to complain about excessive cornering speed, inappropriate numpty overtaking, and back end out round the old roundabouts - there may be something in this Brake campaign after all.....
Went to the dealers tonight and signed the paperwork. I've been quoted a delivery date of May 20th They said it might move foward a bit yet, I really hope it does, the middle of May seems a long way off and everything on my current car will need doing and renewing before then!
Brake are a total pain in the ! I would think the Civic sat nav would have to be one of the safest of the lot being voice controlled!

WENT TO COLLECT OURS OVER 7 WEEKS AGO, IN SILVER. EXCELLENT CAR, BUT WE HAD TO REJECT IT AS IT HAD NOTICIBLE 'DENT' MARKS UNDER THE SURFACE ON THE PASSENGER DOOR. A FRIEND OF MINE WHO CAME WITH US TO COLLECT THE CAR USED TO WORK IN CAR MANUFACTURING AND SAID IT WAS A 'MACHINE PRESS FAULT' WHICH SHOULD NEVER OF LEFT THE FACTORY LIKE THAT. I WOULD NOT HAVE REALLY SPOTTED THE DENTS BUT ONCE HE SHOWED ME ,THEY WERE SO OBVIOUS. HONDA STATED I WAS THE FIRST TO COMPLAIN ABOUT SUCH A FAULT, BUT I ASK THE QUESTION HOW MANY HAVE 'SLIPPED THROUGH THE NET' WITHOUT BEING SPOTTED BY THE UNTRAINED EYE.
WE HAVE SINCE RE ORDERED, AND GET IT NEXT WEEK ( SEVEN WEEKS LATER DUE TO THE DEMAND / LIMITED STOCK). LOOKING FORWARD TO IT, AND GOT A FREE FIRST SERVICE FOR OUR TROUBLE.

I looked at a Type-R when I was at the dealers the other day. The paintwork on one panel was very poor, full of orange-peel appearance. I would have rejected it - so the moral here might be to check the bodywork very carefully. Seems to make a mockery of the salesman's comment to me that the long wait for the CTRs is due to the fact that they want to keep the quality up
