RE: S2000's track attack

I don't think you quite need to lose 240kg off the car if you are keeping it road legal.
But good power gains are not cheap.
I've shed a load of weight, but i think that has just offset what I've added.
Sill in the region of 300bhp per tonne though. Just need to find a weigh bridge to confirm.

Pretty quick in the twisties . . . some impressive steering here.

The nurburging is hardly the place to highlight quick steering!
Quite the opposite in fact.
Bibbs, you're right it doesn't need to lose nearly as much, but let's face it Honda are never going to turbo or supercharge the S2K, and the engine does not tune easily (or cheaply). It needs to go anorexic or not bother at all IMO.

In the US in 2004. Never here. I think it's recently been introduced in Japan too.
The problem is with the stroke increase taking it to 2.2, they dropped the redline by 1100rpm, making it go to 8200, and it develops 3bhp less. All for a flatter torque curve, and an extra 6lb/ft.
They're slowly destroying the entire idea of the car.

Bada, I'm not sure where you got that figure from but I understand the 2.2 AP2s usually dyno 10bhp greater. I prefer the 9K redline though

A very nice fast convertible is not a good basis for a track car
I'm sure Westfield, Caterham and Lotus would beg to differ!!
Funny! Although its hard to call a Westfield or any Seven inspired car a true convertible, as theyre hardly great cars with the roof on, leak like sieve too; whereas the S2000 is a great everyday usable car.
The Elis comparison is interesting in that nobody has mentioned reliability, there has been the odd S2000 blown up, but generally S2000's are bombproof; now you cant say that about Elise, and were comparing two cars that live very different lives; average S2000 gets used as a daily driver and weekend fun car, whereas Im sure most will agree average Elise is a fragile weekend fun 2nd car, and pampered much more because of it.
Im nit anti Elise, I just dont think its a realistic comparison.
Not sure many track day addicts will want a lightweight S2000 though, me, Id rather have a westfield or Caterham/seven for that; horses for courses!
