1/2 litre of oil every 1000miles seems a lot to me. My Scooby uses next to bugger all oil and i only need to top it up slightly, maybe 1/2 litre every 4000 or so miles. These RX8's seem to be similar to the S2k's in that they use shedloads of oil too.

What is it about these cars that make them so heavy on oil?
Errmm.... 9000rpm maybe?

...for the S2K, the wankel's different in that some of the oil that lubricates the rotor tips gets burnt in the combustion "chamber".

That's true, but I thought I would point out the obvious link.

Mine's used about less than 1.5 litres in 8,000 miles, so I think it depends on the car. And mine is a second car which does get driven properly more often than some who commute in theirs'.

Thats just a bit more than i use in mine so that's not too bad but some of these cars drink almost as much oil as petrol hehe

That would say to me that there are huge variables between one S2K and another not just with the engine manufaturing/assembly processes but also how these cars are run in from new.

I never guessed there could be so much variation between the same cars. I can only site scoobys as examples but for the most part they are all much of a muchness and don't use much oil at all.

04+ cars are known to use a LOT less oil than 99-03 cars.

The oil consumption on mine varies with the type of driving I'm doing, as does fuel consumption, but when the suns oot and the tops down, do I care............. NOOOOOOOOO.

Last top-up: 186 miles of short-distance commuting and A-road blatting (inc. beating up a Boxster and sticking with a 335Ci!!! biggrin) - 22mpg (record low). Tank before (schlep to and from York via M-ways, 240+ miles) - 31mpg (record high). Go figure.

But I care equally little...if I'd cared I'd never have sold the diesel!

Every VTEC dance I have seems to cost me a bar on the fuel gauge!
However I have got about 240 miles/tank out of mine. (still treating it with respect!)

To put that in perspective, how large is the tank?

50 or 55 litres...50 I think. Fuel light is pessimistic and comes on with well over 5 litres left (I think it's set for '50 miles' in Hondas)...my typical fill-up is around 40-43 litres, and 240 sounds about right for 40 litres.

Ahh! I couldn't see the tab - Mac OS.

You've pretty much summed it all up there, no need to write my first impressions then.
