The original post just said MR2, not MR2 turbo (which BTW is a grey-import only and I'd be surprised if there were more than 100 in the country).
there are probably more than 100 for sale right now on the PH classifieds old chum!Edited by Wadeski on Monday 24th September 19:31
Actually there ARE a fair few MR2T's in the PH classifieds...so maybe there's a few more been imported than I thought...
But it's still a grey, still not common, and the original post didn't refer to the turbo, which given it's COMPARATIVE rarity to the original n/a is a mistake if it was meant that way. It's like talking about 'the Focus' when you mean the RS or the ST...
...and I'd still rather an S2000 or an RX8, even if they're probably slower...

Your typical Skyline is a 2.0 N/A coupe or saloon if you are going to divide models by numbers built.
And never sold in the UK...say 'Skyline' to someone and they automatically think of a GTR. Say 'MR2' to someone and they don't think of a subtly-turbo'd rocket, but a posers Ferrari-alike.I tend to ignore greys...not sure why, just what I've always done...guess because they're such a small fraction of UK sports car market and (up until recently) have been individual imports, rather than widespread as is becoming the case...
The Turbo over the NA?
Yes.
I drove my NA for abuot 18 months and the turbo for over 5 years.
The NA was always a sheep in wolfs clothing. Looked the part but was seriously underpowered, and you could feel it. 150~175 bhp (depending on revision) and by modern standards that's nothing when Vauxhall are putting more in Corsa's.
The Turbo was 250 with a few easy changes, and 300 with a few more. The low(ish) weight and great handling made it quicker than 95% of cars on the road, and it brought the car alive. The turbo was easily a wolf in wolfs clothing. The noise of the turbo 2" behind the firewall, BOVs chirping, it was about more than flat out speed.
I sold mine for the S2000 and although a better car due to the suspension and being "newer" in age and design, it didn't have that "something" that the MR2 had.
Which is why after saying "I'm not going to mod this car" I've now added so much to it to try and make it special. Personally, I think I'm getting there. I think the same thing about the S, good car, but needs extra power to bring it alive.
The S2000 is better at everything now apart from luggage space and ecconomy. Do I miss my MR2? Yes, every day. I was lucky that the GF bought it, so I got to see/drive it still. But we've now split. If she didn't smoke, and I could afford it, I'd buy it back in an instant.

The car or your ex GF?But ex is cool, we just drifted apart. So it's all on good terms.
I've been driving for almost 35 years and have only had a Honda for the last 4.
If I had known what I know now, I would have bought one decades ago instead of the crap British cars I have owned since I was 17!
Talk about reliable. Our Accord is bullet proof and just so easy to drive
The Honda Dealer is the best and most efficient I have ever had the pleasure of doing bussiness with.
The only fault we have had, was with the alloy wheels. They started to get badly corroded within a year, but were all changed last year with no fuss at all.
A top car
