If you're buying new now, the latest 2008 model revisions inlude re-tuned shock absorbers, uprated springs and thicker anti-roll bars, all with the aim of improving stability, sharpening its handling and improving the steering’s responsiveness. Probably worth taking one for a spin (pun kinda intended!!)

I might be a bit late with this, but I had to get rid of my beloved Elise 111R as I had to raise some funds for my new house, plus the girlfriend hated the Elise. The nearest I could get to the pac and for less / same money, was the S2000.

I nearly blabbered like a baby when the Lotus went, and quickly bought the Honda the next day, thinking it would not fill the void. Well, I can honestly say it has and I Love the Honda. The engine sounds are unbelievable. You'll just want to keep driving it. The steering seemed a bit lifeless at first. Also, the handling seemed a bit tricky on all the S2000's I test drove, but most of the cars had semi-bald ste tyres on the back, including those on the one I bought. So once I had slipped on a decent set of rear rubbers, handling was immediately transferred.

It did not seem anywhere near as quick as the Lotus at first, it's probably not, but now I am really pushing it, having got a bit of confidence, and it seems much closer.

Overall, I prefer the Honda as an everyday drive, as it has less compromises. Watch the Fuel economy though when you take the engine round through to 9000rpm, bit more juicey than the frugal Lotus!
