Prelude 92-96 Buying Guide anyone?

Basic things to check are.
Rear arches rust (expensive to fix, check under the arch trim as they rust from the inside out)
If the car has 4WS (four wheel steer) then make sure that it works. (with the engine running turn the steering wheel and watch the rear wheels)
The lights on the dash should light up when you turn the key to position 2, then they should all go out a few seconds after you start the car. If they stay lit then there is a problem.
Make sure that nobody has removed the CEL or 4WS bulbs from the dash (look under the car for 4WS actuator) I went to see a car advertised as black NON-4WS to find it was a 4WS car with the bulb removed!, this can be dangerous.
Check that gearchange is smooth in all gears, especially 5th as the syncro on 5th is easily damaged on these boxes. Check reverse is easy to engage (if you have to force it this is another sign of 5th gear syncro problems)
Obviously check that VTEC works propperly (you will know if it does
)
The engines are very reliable if serviced propperly, if they are run on low oil or not serviced then they can be damaged, check for smoke when cold, and (if possible) smoke on the power at high revs
Other than these things they are supprisingly solid cars.
You should then just check all the basics that you would on an old car.
There are lots of preludes for sale and can be real bargains.
Also remember that Jap imports are slightly faster and might have better spec (leather and stuff) but UK cars can be much cheaper to insure.. if your youngish then it might be worth looking at a UK car (as I did) for insurance reasons.
Good luck finding a prelude, I would recomend test driving a few before you buy one.. or somebody on the owners club might take you for a ride (if your local to me I will)
