Ben - DB-something (DB4 IIRC) is the 4-door. I'd expect it to have a marginally stiffer structure but also marginally more weight and higher c-o-g. Not sure if the suspension is identical or not though, but they're rare as anything, even in Japan...
IIRC the 4 door ITR was the DB8. Correct me if i'm wrong though.
Correct.

Also worth mentioning that the 96 spec can only be had as an import - never released here.

The "facelift" model (one with the silly lights) is 98 spec onwards. The jap 98 spec had similar lights to the 96 spec. Main differences between 96+98 are:

98 has 5 stud wheels
282 rather than 262 mm disks
Nicer steering wheel
Wheels look nicer
Slightly different exhaust mani
Rear bumper has like a little bar thing down the bottom
ABS isn't an option on 98 (although i think it was a delete option)

(I think that's about it).

Insurance wise, they're not that different. They were reclassified as sports cars rather then sports coupe's in 98 but then there's the import markup that you don't need to deal with. So not really that different.

itr-dc2.com is a good site for all things ITR.

Beath this...one pair of S2000 front discs £294+vat!
How about £ 3320 for a Big Service and I provided most of the parts!!!

Hondas are great cars, but they get you back on the parts/labour and no Honda Hapiness for NSX or S2000!
redface

What did you get for £3300?

(I've got another one, new soft top £1717)
20 hours of labour + VAt plus a few bits and bobs.

It went in to have timing belt, water pump, oil cooler and a few other bits changed, as well as pretty much every seal in the engine.

Cheers,

Aspen - the DC2 has a reasonably high roof compared to the seat, but I'd still avoid it - 6'4" or so would manage, I think you'd struggle. DC5 might be slightly better in that regard as they deliberately raised the roofline when they realised how many people were taking ITRs on track and wearing lids inside them...
.
Thanks havoc. Will leave it on the shortlist for now until I actually sit in one!

(Completely off-topic) D'oh - just twigged you're in NZ!

We're holidaying down your way in September - if it's OK, can I e-mail you to find out a bit more about the place, including whether there'll be any Jet-boat racing while we're there - seen it on cable TV over here and it looks so much fun...
Sorry been away for the last week or so - sure thing, thats no problem. Send me a PM from my profile, it should get through. Also worth dropping into the NZ section of the forums and asking there too, theres a few of us down here. smile

PS Any thoughts on what part of the counrty you'll be heading for? I'm down south in Central Otago which is where the majority of tourists end up at some stage of their trip.

Havoc- I found a program from one of the JetSprint rounds lying round my flat (flatmate builds engines for jetboats), looks like its only really a summer series so unlikely to be anything on in September. But there are plenty of jetboat rides you can take up and down rivers which are good fun. Most well known is Shotover Jet:

Just been for a brief test drive of nice white UK DC2. I do fit and it is possible to drive although I would get the seats moved back a little to make it even better. Its for sale at the Honda garage where it was first sold and has had 2 owners and done 89000 miles. They're asking 5995 for it but I reckon I could get them to sort the seats for that price as well.

Can anyone recommend an insurer? I'm 24 with 1 years NCD with Direct line but they won't even look at it.

I wasn't planning on buying for a few months but this appears to be a fantastic car. I shouldn't buy just now becasue I'm going travelling for a couple of months. I am however sorely tempted as its such a fine unmodified example in the colour I want!

Tough call. GOOD unmodded ones aren't rare (you see more original DC2's than any other similar-era Jap performance car), but you need to be patient.

Also depends what your budget is - buy the best you can afford, as the big parts (clutch/'box/dampers/bushes) aren't cheap.

Aspen, I reckon that cars the wrong side of dear.

Ok, I bought private, but mines UKDM, 2 owner, 87.5K and a shed load of history, but I paid £4800 for mine.

If it comes with a 12 month warranty thats worth having, it may seem a little more reasonable.

Was there a px involved ?

BTW, Im an old git I know, but Direct line didnt bat an eyelid when I changed the insurance over. About £300 Cop IIRC.

I didn't get as far as talking about prices and pxs. I decided I should leave before I did something daft! I'll trawl through the classifieds to look at prices. I might go back and talk figures and see if I can get a warranty (if its still there). It would have been easier if it was a shoddy example as I wouldn't be thinking about buying it!

They had it advertised at £7000 last week but changed it to £5995 on Monday. I reckon a bit of haggling could be done.

A little bit extra for the peace of mind a dealer warranty will provide is worth it. I bought a 40,000 mile example from a dealer 3 and a half years ago. Within a year I'd had 3rd/4th synchros replaced, along with the aircon belt assembly- jobs which would have come to more than £1500 if I'd been paying for them.
