I am in the market for a S2000 for around 15k. To add to this I wanted to know where I could get a supercharger to fit said car.
I know it sounds crazy, but I have heard from a friend that he drove one with supercharger fitted and it was fab. He could not remember what make it was though

Any ideas out there, is it reliable and what is the cost?

Yes.

www.s2ki.co.uk will furnish you with all the answers - at least one of the guys on there (in the UK) has a s/c install, and it's kicking out well over 300bhp.

The yanks do quite a few of them, and s2ki.com (same website, but home-page) will link to their stuff...

That looks like a very neat install. Will it matter what age of car I get with regards to the supercharger i.e. will the newer model benefit more or less. this will help be decide what age of car to go for.

For the Comptech (mine and Mike's) and the Vortech, you need one with no DBW, so a pre 2006.

New ones are being done atm.

Mine made 316whp.

Is there any other work that needs doing for the installation? Remapping of the emu and the like?
Do you mind me asking what sort of money I would need to set aside for the work and bits?

I am looking at getting a 03 or 04 car with my budget so should be ok.

317 horses sounds like a good laugh, and I thought my TVR was fun in the wet!

Remapping of the emu...
Interesting. Would you require training for that? I'm guessing you'd need to gauge the tranquilisers very carefully, and as for releasing it afterwards...I'm told they can kick like a mule!

Stock install needs no remap (mine @ 280WHP)
Bibbs was full on wiht AEM ECU, injectors etc
They aren't that bad in the wet, so long as the tyres and geo are good wink

I've a few other bits as Mike says.

I used the std kit and got ~240whp (~286bhp using smoke and mirrors). But with a de-cat it was running lean. So I got injectors and an ECU

Clutch, ECU, Injectors .. for over 300bhp power.
Then I added a few gauges, ally rad etc. for peice of mind.

and then dropped a bottom end.

The whole point of an S2000 is that you can thrash the engine and drive it really really hard all the time without any worry of it failing on you............. surely slapping on a supercharger (or turbo) will just bring back that worry (even its been re-mapped and improved to cope), won't it?????

I'd guess thats correct in theory (What you reckon charger guru's?) but the S2k just isnt quick enough in standard form and the only way to get decent power out of it is to go down the route of forced induction.

A supercharger does not alter the nature of the engine. I rev it out as I did with all my others. There are US users with over 100K miles on a SC'ed engine. The F20C is apparently capable of sustained 500 BHP with internal mods.

A turbo's a slightly different matter.

Have to say that looks pretty impressive. Very envious!! if there was a place in the UK that offered these as a full installation I'd be very, very tempted! One thing about the S that I'd like to improve is the performance, it's more than adequate but I do miss the acceleration of my old TVR Griff 500.

Offered a full install?

DIY it. Mine took a long weekend (most of that was spent watching TV or swearing at the crank pulley bolt).

I recon it could be done in 10 hours on your own.

Yeah I've seen you mention the DIY job a few times on S2ki but to be honest the thought of doing that worries the hell out of me!!!! I'm one of these people who if I think I can make a good job of it, I'll give it a go, but if I think I'll make a pigs ear of it then it's stand well clear. The latter holds true in this case!!!

One thing that does slightly appeal is the S becoming more of a handful to drive, as in being a little more challenging. It deserves respect as standard for sure but I almost roll my eyes in disbelief at the amount of posts there are on S2ki about it having 'wayward handling'. It's the best handling road car I've driven this side of a Caterham/Atom/Exige and it's a damn site more practical than any of those so I really can't see the fuss!!

I was like you .. On the car before the S, I didn't even do my own oil changes.
I've now got an engine in the lounge and an engine crane on the car smile

If anything, the extra power doesn't make it harder to drive, it make it easier.

The peak power before the SC, was available from about 4500 after the SC. It gives a bigger performance window so you don't have to be so hard on the g'box. It also makes it easier to just push the rear out and slide everywhere.

Ha ha .. well it's a good weekend of work away from even being on the road.

It's on wheel ramps, axle stands and is in lots of little peices.

I've also sold the SC to fund the new engine.

But once it's back, it'll be pretty much a stock S2000 for a while frown

(240bhp is gay wink )

But anyone wanting run outs once it's back are more than welcome. I'm in the Reading area.
