RE: Honda Civic Type R

Yes - Red apples are much quicker, more economical and reliable than green apples IMO, but green apples come with soft top option which is a winner for me..
I went karting last year and amongst the numpty excuses being reeled out was "Well, the red karts are definitely faster than the blue ones".
But that WAS true
Just to make it clear:
Here are some results of test drive of the CTR against The Clio V6 3 liter 224 Hp (which costs a lot more, about 25000 £) tested by a german sports automobile magazine)
The CTR has about 2/3 of the torque of the Clio, so you would think that it has no chance if it comes to pulling from 80 km/h to 160 km/h or at any other speeds.
The result show it clearly, it is more or less equal, in some cases even better.
The acceleration from 0 to 200 km /h:
the Civic: 28,4 secs.
the Clio: 32,8 secs.
For those who think that the CTR will have no chance on track due to his Van-like looks.
On the Nürburgring (Germany: about 21 km one lap)
CTR: 8'37'' Clio 8'39''
any questions ?

quote: Would a CTR beat a Boxter from say 50mph to 100mph if both cars were in 6th gear(without changing down)?
---> Yes it would, if talk about a normal Boxter 217 BHP not a Boxster S which has about 249 BHP
Here are some results I found in a german magazine. A comparison of The CTR against The Boxster S:
50 - 100 mph: (4./5./6. gear)
CTR: 14,4 s / 18,6 s / 25,9 s Boxter S: 19,4 s / 17,5 s / 24,4 s
not a great differences for a car that has a lot more torque than the CTR, isn't it ?

Can't be arsed reading this mammoth thread on a rice boy hatch, but I'll add my 2p. I used to drive a Pug 106 Gti. Very good fun in that it was light, handled very well etc but became tired of it's thrashy noise and need to cane it's arse off for any performance. Grunt is the way to go.

There is NOTHING on the market at that price, brand new, that would come close on the track, and for that, Honda should be congratulated, I think there is alot of toffy nosed badge holders that are afraid, very afraid
Kerniki, I totally agree with all of the above. 100%. And yes, they should be congratulated, it has taken on everything in the sector, and beaten it.
But, it's taken me 31 years, the last 10 in particular of bloody hard work to get where I am today, so I don't consider myself a toffee nosed badge holder at all. Performance per pound, it beats my Porker into a cocked hat.
But I doubt many CTR drivers open their garage doors of an evening just to look at what's in there.

The very fact that you think this, qualifys you for the afore mentioned label. There is IMO nothing wrong with staring at your car, but to think that other people dont have the same admiration for there cars just cause you dont, is confirmation in itself.

Great. So the last nine years of hard work paid off, then. If you think I'm a badge snob, then fine, I bloody aspired since I was a kid to owning a Porsche. Now I do. Cut me some slack, won't you ?
I've nothing against Japanese machinery, and if you knew me then you would know that my last car was Japanese.
But you clearly don't get the point, so why don't you f*** off, you tiresome, bitter little man.
Can't you understand someone's joy at owning a car like a Porsche ? It would appear not.

Nik, can we agree to disagree on this ? C'mon....
I think the point I was trying to make was this: you're a TVR owner, right ? Well, impracticalities aside, what car would you rather drool over from your garage door ? If it was me, it would be your TIV, every day.
But if you're looking for a hot hatch, then this appears to be the critic's choice right now.
I have had my type r for a couple of months now and i can't wipe the smile off my face!!
Anyone who contests it's looks should see how many head's it turns when i'm driving it, even granny's have to stare at it!!
I seriously love this car, for 16k i have a seriously quick bargain parked on my drive.
The only other performance car i owned was a 4x4 cossie which doesn't come anywhere near this on performance.
It is quite thirsty on petrol and i am certainly not seeing 33mpg that honda claims, but i bought this car to drive hard and i ain't gonna complain about having to visit the petrol station a little more often than normal.
This car seems to atract boy racers in their rs turbo's and gte's, but i've dicked everyone of them, i would certainly welcome a proper test of performance from a scoobie, cossie or evo to see how it compares to the big boys!!
