RE: Honda Civic Type R
Discussion
I have owned a Type R now for quite a while and have got quite used to the way it drives. Since the first time that I got behind the wheel the car has never failed in putting a smile on my face. Has for the people on here who go on about it feeling slow, WHAT !! do you all drive supercars ? The CTR will blow away any of it's rivals if it is driven by someone who can drive one, properly. Some one got it spot on when someone went on about how little torque there is, Honda fitted it with 6 gears for a damm good reason and the positioning of the gear stick in the dash was'nt a coincidence either. Honda chose this set up to provide you with all the correct tools for creating smiles per miles !!

Bloody hell man, CONGRATULATIONS!!!! For bringing up a thread that is 4 flipping years old! 29 pages long you'd think that an agreement had been established?
And it wouldn't 'blow away' a clio 182 as a matter of fact.
[
It aint me that keeps going on about the Torque situation !!! And seeing has I am new to pistonheads ant have only just read all the threads I think that I am still entitled to give my view on any of them.
And as for not blowing awat the 182, ok it may not blow it away , But it certainly beats it in all areas, In MY opinion !!!
And the Clio cup 182 that decided he wanted some fun on the way to work, I dont think he would agree,or is that you ??

I'm glad you added the "in MY opinion" at the end to differentiate from the facts of the matter. I'd say a nice 20mile circuit of fast A and B roads might show just how good something like a Clio 182 Trophy is. I would hazard a bet that the clio would be quicker than the CTR.
As with all these things the skills of the driver are often more important than the individual car, and in fact both of these machines are very, very good (and quite equal). But I think my cash would be heading towards Renault rather than Honda.

Thanks for your comments but I do have something to back it up and if you watch you will see. I know it aint much by any stretch of my imagination but it is beaten by the CTR, and is being driven by someone whom I would be sure you would agree is a awesome driver. And he also gives his opinion, so it aint just mine!!
And can I stress I like the clio and always have, I used to want one ever since the early 16v, but to me it does'nt come close for build quality, reliability, and last but not least, POWER and PERFORMANCE.
So please watch this link and enjoy, www.youtube.com/watch?v=7taI8slbPq0

Right because 2 tenths of a second makes all the difference.
And its not as if the extra power in the 'R' makes all that much difference because it weighs 100kgs more than the clio. Most people don't buy the cars to drive around the track all day long, so comparing them on a track isn't really relevant.
I really can't be bothered getting into an argument about these two very capable hot hatchs, but some of the things you are saying are not relevant.
I suppose the shoddy steering feel in the Type R wasn't an issue for you?

Ooh it's started again.
I've driven 'em both. I didn't buy either. Bought a DC2 'teg instead, which combines the best points of both and looks miles better than either.
The Clio's steering feel is much better and it's damping/poise is superior to the CTR. But it's dampers are shock-ingly (See what I did there! ) badly made and liable to leak/fail. And the CTR is superior in most other regards - build & reliability, driving position, gearchange, braking, practicality...
The steering and handling poise, however, as in the Elise, are enough to lift the Clio above the CTR in a list of "purist driver's hot-hatches", although for most people I'd recommend the CTR.

Okay and now you've linked to a video with a Clio 172. Whats the point in that when we were talking about the 182?
