When we visit Switzerland next week, we'll only be there for a couple days, traveling from France to Italy. Is it feasible to just turn up with no CHF and just get what I need from cash machines or pay by card? I've no idea how much I'll need in advance.

I'm I likely to run into any difficulties if I haven't got any local currency for the drive to Lucerne?

I replied yesterday in the thread "Euros in Switzerland":

No problem. Despite the fact that Switzerland is surrounded by Euroland, all hotels, and most shops. restaurants will accept payments in Euros. However, the exchange rate applied will be to your disadvantage. If you have a credit card (VISA, MasterCard, etc.) you can get around without any cash. You can also change you euros for CHF very easily. If you are travelling by car here and using the motorways, don't forget to buy the "vignette" for a cost of CHF 40.- which allows you to use all the motorways.

However, having some change may be needed to pay small amounts in places that won't accept either Euros or cards.

Thanks,

I'll just get £10 or £30 worth of CHF just so we've got something, I'll sort the rest once we are there.
