want to book a track day - noisy car

where is the best place for a novice to do a track day with a noisy TVR? Even bolt on silencers will be unlikely to get it below 100 - guessestimate is around 102 - 105 with bolt ons.

I am based down south but dont mind making a weekend of it with B & B etc.

Cadwell Park with TVRCC on Monday 24th May (105dB static)?

Alternatively look out for any days at Elvington, Anglesey, Cadwell Park, Brands Hatch, Silverstone or Snetterton with BookaTrack or others - all usually have 105dB (or no) noise limits.

Apparently a standard Griffaera is 90db according to the bible. I think there is also an estimate rating for sports exhausts.

Yours should be approx 100-103db's.

PERHAPS you could get it checked at Coombe and then you'll know what trackdays you can do in the future without losing your money. Ask the TVRCC first if they will do it for you.

BookaTrack will rent you a noise meter (£9 including p&p both ways).

to be honest mate I would rather let a marshall do it at a track. Not only free and a good excuse to pop down goodwood but he would know the distance and angle from the pipes as well as at what revs etc.

You sure? Maybe when brand new, but not a few years down the line.

My '96 Griff - standard original 'zorst with all the cats - is now 99db at 4.5k rpm. A couple of years ago it was 97db.

All RMA days at Donnington are 'noisy' this year. The standard MSA limit of 105dB will still be applied I should think though.

Not that close to you - but not that much to hit either .

Ive just been viewing the RMA track day in SPA pics. Fine selection of track machines there. Looks like they do days for the hardcore. I think there is a thread running.

RMA I think that the Bedford days that they do are quite well organised - and there is no problem with novices (although there is with noise, so that venue would be no good for you - I got black flagged in a 1.8 Ginetta ).

As I'm sure has been said above - all of the well run days - Bookatrack, RMA, Goldtrack etc - are attended by pretty laid back people, all of whom remember that they were novices once.

Even as a novice, I'd go for open pit lane rather than sessioned days if poss. Takes the pressure off, and you can go out when you like!

They both seem good with BAT being the cheapest.

Donington have a few 'noisey' days this year, but even on the 'quiet' days I've heard some noisey cars going round with no problems

It's open pitlane so you can push yourself and the car for as long or short a period of time as you like
There is quite a lot of run off, you can have some quite big offs and not hit anything
Some of the quiet days are weekends which make things even easier for partying after

I've avoided this one as I thought that it was in sessions (promiced to take my mechanics on a day towards the end of the year - and obviously Donington is pretty close). Are you sure that it's open pit lane Raceboy?

How about Brands Hatch on June 24th ? Being run by [url]www.easytrack.co.uk[/url] on the Grand prix circuit, 105db. so shouldn`t be a problem there. Apparently free instruction for novices as well, might have me some of that too !
