I dont know about seperate policies but i have the option to cover me with my current insurer Liverpool Victoria. Think they have a website, do a search and give them a call

Dusty, me boy. Jeremy rightly points out Competition Car Insurance - but if you insure your car for total write-off you won't like the price!

AON and RSA both do policies which cover UK trackdays. NU provide some cover, but it's more expensive than either of the two just mentioned. CCI are very expensive... (IMHO)

Just resurected this thread

www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?p=1&f=18&t=620&h=0

Is it still possible to get ins companies to send these proof letter out or have they all cottoned on now?
I refer to the fact that many polcies state "no racing, timed runs, rallies" but not specifically "trackdays".

I have just noticed this company which specialises in track day insurance.

I haven't tried them for a quote, if you do let us know how they do:

Dusty

A few years ago I insured my Impreza Turbo for a TVRCC trackday (it was a company car and even though I owned 50% of the business my partner made me insure it!!!) £58 for day £20K covered, £5K excess and I'd done about 70 trackdays with no damage incident before!!, not cheap but worth it for peace of mind (when you're at the bottom of CAscades at Oulton, staring out of the drivers window done the track!!!!)

I used competition car insurance, pre-arranged but booked and paid for on the day via mobile/Credit Card

Yes, but due to an increase in claims CCC's premiums have gone up. I recently insured my Cerb with them for £21k and the premium was £191.

My quote was significantly reduced as I opted for a 5K excess and had done quite a lot of trackdays prior to this event.

Competition Car Insurance are very expensive.

The cheapest way to do this is to switch insurance companies. Join Aon. Their quotes aren't bad in the first place and their service is outstanding. Add to this the fact that they will cover track days and you have a winning formula.

I pay about a grand a year to cover my Boxster S with them fully comp. I then ring them before track days and tell them where and when the event is and who the organiser is. They then ring the underwriters to check it's OK (they recognise most track day organisers) and then they charge you a small fee for the track day. They charge me £29 per event because my car is worth 29 grand, so 1/1000 of its value. I think the minimum fee is £25 though.

Definitely the cheapest way of doing it for an every day car (not a classic.....these policies often give cover free).

I have tried a few of the companies that offer track day cover as part of their policies.
So far though they are all a few hundred pounds more than my current cover.
Im yet to hear from AON and Sunninghill though but Im not holding my breath for good quotes.

My current deal is for both my cars together which is why I get it so cheap. Since one of the cars has 0years NCD then Im probably better off waiting till next year before I go to one of these companies.

So for now I need trackday cover only.
I have 2 trackdays planned.

Bearing in mind I've had a valuation on the car for £18K how much cover do you think I should get and what sort of excess levels are appropriate?
(I was offered a £5000 excess but that seemed excessive!).

Thanks

It all depends upon your circumstances: if the worst were to happen, how much could you afford to contribute to put your car back on the road? Choose the level of excess to ensure that the insurance does what you need it to - get the car put right.

Of course you might also factor in your view on the risks involved, and be prepared to gamble on a higher excess to reduce the premium.....

Thanks JC.

Perhaps the way forward for me is more cover on the first day. Then if I feel its safe to do so I'll lower it for the second.

I wish I'd just bought a Caterham instead now!

I'm sure you'll be fine: to be honest trackdays feel a much safer driving environment than on the roads.
