going to nurbergring for a blast on the public sessions next weekend, (saturday night 7-8 and Sunday morning 9-12). Staying in the Dorint on the start finish straight....

Any advice from anybody thats been? Do I need to take a Helmet for the track etc? Whats the Dorint like, it seems cheap at £50 for a 4 star Hotel??

I know the organised days are supposed to be better but in the area already and at £50 for the hotel plus £30 petrol to get there it seemed a good opportunity.

don't need a lid, but i'd use one if you got one.
it's a public toll road really, not a race track, in theory which is why.

Dorint is a top hotel right on the straight of the GP track. lots to see and has been used by drivers a sponsors etc for many years.

try booking it on a DTM weekend and see how much it costs!

have a good time! there should be lots there this weekend, goldtrack are there unofficially off of their SPA days. also worth a look and only a couple of hours away!

look for british plates and say hello.

Benno,
I'll see you there. I'd a take a lid if you can, as you can always err on the side of caution that way. As a derestricted public toll road, there is no legal requirement to wear a lid, but you never know what can happen...

PS you may do a tad more than £30 of fuel once you get the tiv wound up in belgium and along the B258 (road which leads up to the Ring)

Was excellent weekend, well reccomended.

Only did 11 laps, but with each lap at circa 14 miles thats not bad going I guess.

Was in black 996, saw a couple of UK cars there, red Boxster S, Red 964RS, Blue Supra - anybody here?

And a 170mph blast down the Autobahn on the way back.

Plus accomodation.....
Plus food and beer......

It's not cheap but I wouldn't want to do anything else!

'was' mine, until I overrevved it (mis-shift) coming into Schwedencreuz (sp) on sunday morning just before lunch.....

Didn't want the exhaust valves anyway!!!

I think a big rebuild is on the cards.... make mine a 3.8 (I'm thinking about it)

Still got brands on the bike on friday, then 2 days at monza in early Aug to look forward to. Was gutted about missing out on Spa though.

I'll be back at the ring in the 'baroness' in sept though (assuming all the parts can be obtained, and it can be fixed OK).

Cheers
Ferg

PS Ed - you were flying in the little clio - it's a monster!

You are brave to be hammering through Schwedenkreuz in the first place More than I'd do in a 911

Bad luck re car, but could be time for those fancy cams, 3.8 conversion etc. Rubystone knows how you feel. It's easier to do than people think in a 964RS...

bad luck on the car.

we got the hoverspeed sea cat for £95 return and stayed in the 4* Dorint Hotel on the start / finish line at the new Nurburgring for £53 for the night. This was a special internet rate.

Track Wise we did the 11 laps, a 5 and a 6 lap ticket which was about €130 or £80.

Well worth it, even with Petrol its still not far diferent from a UK track day and at 14 miles a lap I doubt you normally get 154 miles in on your average UK track day.

Car back at AmD already! Recovered in an artic?! I think the motor will stay at 3.6 for the time being, but will split the crankcases and bang in some ARP big end bolts just to be on the safe side. Am going to discuss cams with Andy, then depending on the bill, MoTEC may as well get slapped on. However, with saucy cams, Andy reckons 320 is poss with the standard AFM!

As soon as we know what needs doing, I'm going to book up the sep ring trip! Are you up for it? I'll give you a lift if you like....
