Wet Track days...love em or hate em?
Discussion
Did my first track yesterday at Silverstone international circuit. Was with instruction. First run I was pretty apprehensive given rain and never driven the circuit but by the final run it was great fun, you definitely learn where the limits are. Had a few moments where I had to catch the car.
I’d like them too in a front wheel drive Volvo. You are giving me ideas.
Book my 400 bhp TVR (rear wheel drive, no driver aids) onto the track day, tow it there on my trailer with my knackered front wheel drive Saab turbo, which is running on the road on one of the best rain tyres (and is worth about £800), and take the Saab on track if it’s pitching down.
Result!!

Great recovery.
I think lucky tt is probably closer to the truth.Don't know if it happened in this case but it's always nice when the organiser goes to the trouble of describing in great detail the most likely accident and dangerous point on the track during the briefing and then an hour later someone decides to prove them right.
Did one on my bike a few years ago at Knockhill, proper squeaky bum time!
There was one chap out on full wets who was having a ball, towards the end of the day he was the only guy out there having an absolute blast with a whole track to himself!
I ended up over cooking it, drifted onto a painted curb, trying to turn whilst going down an hill in the wet. Gave up at that point and went in for tea & cake!

I had a day of 'three halves' at Silverstone GP yesterday experiencing their still green new surface.
The morning was wet/damp and slippery - I quite enjoyed myself.
The first session after lunch was dry in places, damp in places and oily in places - I hated it.
The rest of the afternoon was essentially dry - I loved it.
There was a thrill to the dry experience that just wasn't there in the wet.
