So, I’m at Snetterton tomorrow...

Should be ‘interesting’.
We’re you in the E46?

I went to this day in a grey R32 GTR with the gold bbs wheels and had some of my most brown trouser moments I can remember!

My car is quite firm and my tyres were basically old and slick AD08R’s. Wasn’t surprised there was no grip but there wasn’t even enough grip for any weight transfer so the car was hopeless at everything. Even at 100 plus it still wasn’t gripping and shooting me sideways, same on the brakes.

A couple of times I could’ve stuffed it, once just accelerating on a straight, once on the brakes, I didn’t spin but after couldn’t help but think what if!

Later in the day it became slightly less lethal so I had a bit of fun, you can still see how dodgy it was tho, god it was slippy!

I like them on an empty track. 3rd slides through Clearways onto the pit straight at Brands Hatch was fun. The hauling over the coals in race control, less so. On a busy track though, it's all too frantic and the odds of an incident get too high for me. It gets a bit boring too, so dry days get my vote.

Hiya,

No I was in the red Porsche 911.

I gave up at 3pm and went home. When you're on the back straight and can't even use 75% throttle in 4th gear without squirming all over the place it's time to call it a day.

Had a few reasonable laps in the morning, but the afternoon was horrendous.

8 pages in, and a few are beginning to share my perspective. Each to their own, but we seem to agree. I would rather be hitting 135 on the Bentley Straight in clean underwear, rather than 75 in brown troosers

To be fair for a second, I would be a lot happier in a front wheel drive 190 bhp Clio in the wet than in my 400 bhp rear wheel drive TVR.

I saw your car, looked very nice 👍

I didn’t arrive until about 11:30 and the track was a lake. It stayed like that until maybe the last 15 mins of the day when I took that vid.

I get what you’re saying. Can still be huge fun though if you have tyres that are ok. I drove with a car on MPS4s and it was so much faster everywhere, felt much less scary.

Yep. I went out with Stuart Gold in his heavily modified GTR. That was on MPS4's and felt like it was on a dry track compared to how my 911 felt on crappy old P Zeros. (I was already intending to swap to MPS4, but that definitely made my mind up).

Small world, I know Stuart and his car is an absolute weapon. Make sure you get the MPS4s not the MPS4! I’m sure you understand the difference.

Given the forecast for Rockingham tomorrow, I'm going to have to learn to love wet trackdays. To be fair I did used to enjoy them when I had a car with a roof and a windscreenlaugh Starting to think I should have booked a garage...and maybe replaced the near bald rear 595RS-Rs.

Wet Rockingham is an ice rink no matter what you do with tyres... great fun. Just don’t spin in turn 1 as you can reach the concrete wall.

Yeah, I'm pretty sure I'll enjoy the actual driving, it's being soaking wet all day I'm not looking forward to. I'll be driving to the track too so I'll be wet before I even get there!

I simply couldn't believe how slippery Rockingham was when the track was just damp.

Watching at 25 seconds into this video shows how easily my Cayman got away from me...

Fully dry or fully wet are fine - I find it's the greasy conditions between wet & dry that are the worst - especially at the Ring.
