PH trip to Spa in July 05
Discussion
As far as including a Nordschleife excursion, on the Saturdays of both 2nd and 23rd July the Nords. will be in use for endurance races until at least 6:00 pm.
The full public-lapping schedule will be published in February.
The public sessions have had a noise limit for the last couple of years. It is described as 95 plus 5, static. That's their way of saying 100, unless you were taking the mick for some other reason, in which case they would use 95.
If one of the marshals at the gates thinks that your car seems loud he will ask you to pull over just beyond the gates for a test.
Usually that same one man does the test. He instructs you to rev to, say, 4,000, and then he walks back to your exhaust to use the testing device. That is to say, you may not necessarily have to rev all the way to the instructed level.
Having said that, this past spring I was tested in a Porsche. I revved my engine to 3300, thinking that this would be within the spirit of things and still get me through. The marshal (since then known by me as "Colonel Klink") got a reading of 100.40. That last four-tenths of a decibel was enough to get the car barred for the day.
I had the car quietened the following week and did not have any subsequent trouble. I do make an effort to trickle quietly through the paddock and do not give it large on the circuit until I am maybe 250 yds beyond the gates.
I have only seen them noise-test on Saturdays and Sundays. I drove the F1 there on a couple of peaceful Mondays and was never tested for noise. A good thing: at Goodwood it generated a static reading of 120.
On public sessions the circuit also bars slicks, cameras, and cars with temporary reg plates. All are strictly enforced.

I can vouch for the eagle eyes of the marshals at the gates. I was warned that I could not drive with slicks. My tyres were admittedly worn to the limit and then some, and I explained that I was waiting for the garage, where I was to get my new tyres installed, to open.
He then told me that I was free to do one more lap, but that I would not be covered by insurance should I have an accident, due to driving with faulty equipment.
