Obviously the 993RS will trounce an Exige above 100mph, but how do these two cars compare on the track?

The only times I've seen Porkers out on the track against Exiges, the Porkers have won hands down. However, judging by the driving style of the Porker driver and the Exige driver on both occasions, I'd saythat the guys driving the porkers would have won if they'd been driving just about anything.

I was at Silverstone on Saturday, helping out Stig. One of the earlier races had an Exige and an assortment of Pork based machinery. In the race, it was fairly evenly matched. Remember though, these were race cars, and not necessarily anything like their road going brothers.

From my experience (Exige driver), the Exige is about on a par with the 911 GT2. Significantly faster through the corners, but loses out on the straights.

Nildram - just had a quick butchers at yer Exige; as those of an Antipodean disposition might suggest -
RIPPER!
Truly mega looking in silver; what a helluva machine, so focused, undiluted, raw automotive carnal bleargh!
I've never driven one (even been in one) but a mate who's a tracksmith like your goodself who plays for Caterham Rovers reckons it's the only Elise derivative to deliver similar thrills - then again, did you ever consider a 340R?
And I nearly forgot - the Noble - go on, recount why?

I've seen dozens of Exiges and squillions of various 911's on track (including many 911RS) - and IMHO it just depends on the track (and the driver).

Let's assume - same driver...

Exige would trounce a 911RS at Castle Combe - be about same lap time at Goodwood and JUST quicker at Donington, would probably lose out on the autodrome and Silverstone and would get totally stuffed on the ring.

No doubt you'll all now post stats to defy these opinions, (I haven't checked any lap times) but logic has it that lighter cars have the edge on the twisty, shorther straight stuff, and beefier long legs have the edge on the sweeping curves and 100mph+ average circuits.

Horses for courses methinks.

A slightly different Q: (and not one often asked)...

In which car would you rather arrive to any of these circuits?

That I think. divides people more than the lap times.

(Which lets face it - will both be bl**dy quick)

My comparison with GT2s has been on Bedford Autodrome. Haven't really come across any other Porsches that can live with the Exige elsewhere (except on Silverstone GP with 911 GT3RS racers, but that's a different story). Have a look at www.howfast.com for some guide times on Bedford Autodrome.

derestrictor - I'm going for a Noble because I've always wanted one, the waiting list is shorter than it used to be, and I'm racing a Radical so I don't need two hard-core small track cars.

Having owned an Exige and now making the transition to a 911 GT3 I'm about to find out. The Exige was absolutely incredible at Brands Hatch and Folembray, it inspires confidence and just grips and grips. Nothing could touch it at Folembray, which is tight and twisty, but Brands was a different story as it would catch up other cars very quickly into the corners but fail to outdrag them down the main straight. Not sure how different the GT3 will be, but am trying it out at Folembray on the Pistonheads track day....
