I'm certainly not the slowest car on track but very far from being the fastest out there, I dont think its reasonable to expect someone to move out of the way mid corner or especially in areas where the track tightens ahead of you and you are trying to watch your mirrors at the same time..there was one guy in particular who was pretty quick think it was a Vantage (it might have been souped up a little) and he was right up my chuff a couple of times in tricky parts of the circuit, I held him up for a few seconds until the track straightened out and then let him past...it isn't much to ask for a little patience everyone has paid the same money to be out there and last i checked there were no prizes for setting the fastest lap of the day!

Totally agree on this count.

There's no dishonour in letting people past, any more than there's honour in forcing your way past people.

There are so many scenarios where you can't totally know the ability or situation of a driver. Fast car, slow driver and vice versa. Driver with a mechanical. Driver cooling his or her car down on an in lap.

Collisions cause inconvenience for everyone, not only the vehicles directly involved.

to be fair i think overall the standard of driving was pretty decent over the two days and the major four car incident was caused by someone dropping fluid

I'd agree, based on experience from two DN track days at the Ring; driving standards are really very good. It follows on from the events being well run overall.

On both days, there were only a small number of instances of bad driving, but they were all very bad - potentially dangerous, needless and discourteous. One was even on the sighting laps FFS! All instances involved either Swedish or Italian registered cars - make of that what you will, but IMHO the organisers might do well to consider that point. There did seem to be a very tiny minority who appeared to think some of the rules from the (excellent) driver's briefing did not apply to them.

Yeah there were couple of Nordic reg cars been driven pretty hard (GT3 RSs, 488, R8 GT) but I didn't see anything overly untoward ... what happened on the sighting lap ?

Thanks for the encouragement, but as you can see I can't even get round a 20mph corner in the wet

I really don't think the Ring is the place to try to learn wet track car control, the stakes are too high for me. The only times I've lost control of my car at the Ring have been in wet or drying conditions, and that was enough to make me very aware of my limitations and of the potential consequences.

Perhaps I should head for Bedford as soon as it rains and try to learn in a relatively benign environment, better still find a tutor.
Its not you mate - its the track! I was gobsmacked by the lack of grip there in the wet - its like 20% of a normal wet road in places. Not used to my car biting me - she is usually SO planted being rather lwb! I was last off a few Sundays ago as they closed the track for an hour after me - and when I saw the truck it was a Ring driving school Renault mangled on it too!!

Absolutely horrendous in the wet - I'd hoped to cope on my fab PSS and just do one nice lap as an experience for my lad as we were in Germany - what a comedy thought as it was totally granny driving time!!!

You really need to complain in the day if you encounter bellends, they are rare on a DN & Darren & the DN team won't stand for it & I've seen folks sent home, twas a guy few yrs ago who'd wrong side overtaken me & a pal, I had a winge as it was moronic & v close to an accident, he had a telling off but continued driving like a tit to others so home he went, Italian of course.

I did hear ref from a fella ref some muppet Swedes purposely blocking overtakes, but if you don't tell the team is nowt they can do about it, but rare to be swedes being tits there imho.

1.) Let a very fast car through on inside of Lauda (was really quick because I barely had to lift) and was rewarded by him needlessly cutting right, across my nose under braking into Berhwerk.
2.) Following an instructor, closely, into Tierharten - not a safe passing spot - I find the car that's been following has decided to send it up then inside.
3.)Car right up the back on sightong lap; mirrors full of the idiot.

To be totally fair to DN, they do note issues, if you report. First was less dangerous than just needlessly inconsiderate, but both other two (instructor himself saw 2nd) were very close.

Alex, you ate 100% right, please pkease people come and let us know of and poor driving. We can and do look out for them when they exit the track and have a chat.
A good example from tuesday was a porsche overtaking a swift on the right at the end of DH, we watched it happen from pit entry/exit area. Yes the guy was blocked by the swift on DH, but it was nobreason to go on the right. When we pulled him he adamantly denied it. He wasn't going to put his hands up to it. So, I then suggested we have a look at his race navigator footage that he had onboard. Instantly he was crushed. A firm slap on the wrist was enough to bring him to heel.

Every track day I have been at at the ring this year (7 days) the 'yellow 488' which has a Finland flag in the rear 1/4 window has been driven round pretty quick and never fails to approach in an aggressive manner, nearly always in a pack of Scandinavian cars. However, he (?) is doing pretty well in it and although the 488 seems a curve ball ring tool its GT3 RS quick and seems reliable too, fair play!

A guy got removed from the ring Grand Turismo Events gig last year who full chat overtook a que of cars while on double yellows. Totally denied it and kicked up a total fuss then shown the video, screwed. Country of origin not relevant.

Digga, the 996 isn't a replacement for the 92468. I've had it a couple of years. Replying here rather than on PPBBs thread.

I'm retiring the 924 for a while. Will put it into storage until I have more time to rebuild it. I'd like to run the 996 as a track car but it's a Tiptronic, so I'm wavering.

thumbup Shame, I liked seeing the 92468 on track.

I've never driven a 996 Tip, so really can't comment on how good, or not, they might be on track. I'd never really 'got' driving on track with auto or paddle-shift 'boxes but then drove a 991 GT3 the other week and got along fine - really enjoyed it - so I guess it's not impossible the tip would work. IIRC, wasn't there someone who'd converted Tip to paddle-shift too?

It was always a bit unwise for me to try to follow Nick in his 92468, as his corner entry speeds were far greater than anything I could achieve.

Hey Guys, Great couple of days for me also at the Ring with DN18. Awesome track really. My very first time there and thankfully ACR performed flawlessly. Unfortunately had some turbo problems with my R26R but ACR was good stand in ; )
Towards the end of the 2nd day and with about 28-30 laps in total under my belt, even managed a 7:50 in the ACR after learning the circuit a bit. However still need more laps!.

Not bad going for a rookie I guess. But car made it easy as well. Had a small sideways moment off carousel but saved it and all was good.
Look forward to the next Ring day when hopefully should do better still. I figure the car has a sub 7 minute in it... Conditions were good although if anything maybe a touch too warm but hey you can't have it all right?

I saw that - good save - you were quite close to the grass I think.

The problem here is the camber change in the traction zone, one wheel with adverse camber and the other one has the right camber...
