I had a supercharged St170 and the best tyres I have ever had on it were kumho ecsta v70a list 1b track spec and road legal they are very similar to the toyo 888 but they heat up much faster and last twice as long, as a rough guide for you on the nurburgring and the only difference between the last visit was the tyres, my lap time from bridge to gantry dropped by 2.23s and the brakes were starting to go by the end of the day so I played a bit with the geometry settings and pressures to get a really good result in the handling department. I will give you the settings that took us 3 months to complete and I promise that you will not get a better setup for road and track than this. You ps the previous tyres were yokohama advan parada and the final setting was 3 degrees more castor than oem, 2.5 degrees negative camber and 1.5 degrees toe out, rear was 1.5 to 2 degrees negative camber and 0 degrees toe angle and the warm pressures were 36 psi front and 33 rear, before taking it out on cold tyres I started with nsf 34psi and osf 35psi nsr 31psi and osr 32psi, 3 laps of castle combe is a great way to get to operating temperature and I was around the 36 front and 34 rear in this time, nurburgring is more bumpy than the combe and I ran 34psi front and 32 rear at operating temperature. Email me for any further information about spring rates to arb sizing etc. Enjoy

That's 0.5%. It could be any of a number of other factors.

Thanks. Oh and you need a full stop after that mate wink
Oh, and remove the apostrophe, a plural does not have one.

Indeed, totally ignoring the experience/learning factor.
You could probably gain 0.5% by taking a poo before you start - I wouldn't be crowing about that gain as the impact of investing in tyres!

Thanks for taking the time to provide all of that detail. I can't adjust the suspension on my car I'm afraid (at least, I don't think I can), since it's standard, but what I can do is play with the tyre pressures. I ran 33psi (cold) all around last time and the osf hit 36 after a few laps at Thruxton. Looks like I'm nearly there but I will try reducing the rears a bit next time around.

You can definitely make small tweaks to the geometry of your standard suspension that will help the car feel a bit more planted. Do some hunting on Focus forums for "fast road" setup tweaks, and take this along to a (recommended) garage with Hunter alignment kit.

i found this post useful
i have a ford focus mkII wich runs on 205/55X16", at the moment i can't afford to buy anything better so the car has to last 2 or 3 more years.
i experienced some track days, just for fun, but this car spoils all the fun actually. recently i drove a similar focus with toyos and the difference was impressive so i think that 4 better tires would be the best investment for me. it actually has 4 pirellis...... no comment.....

toyos r1r and nankang ns2r are both available in my size, but i was wondering if something less track oriented could be a better choice (3-4 td per year).
i have seen some alternatives on wich i'd like to read opinions
-uniroyals 3 are quite famous even on this forum but i had different sets of prevoius models and didn't even know it is a performace tire. so i'm a bit skepitical
-michelin pilot sport 4 are 15€ more expensive than toyos, any experience?
-bridgestone potenza s02 same as toyo, they were quite famous in past years
-GY eagle sport same price, skeptical due to experiences on old eagles
-dunlop spormaxx and sport 01 ? i know that proper dunlops are apreciated

some of the roads i drive are aggressive on tires, the pirellis and also michelin energy couldn't cope very well, need to inflate at higher pressure and they wear out quite fast.
thanks for any imput even if i know that tire preference can be subjective

update this because i ordered the new model from yokohama, the neova fleva v701. not much feedbacks on internet so i'm curious to see how those tires will perform.
they are not proper track day tires but maybe a good allaround, hopefully they will show better grip and resistance than other road tire in this size.
