Thanks for the replies re virtual laps. I have a couple of hours to myself today so might have to see how I get on.
Are there any hire companies that have older cars, like E30 or E36's? If I was to hire a car I would just like it to be something a little closer to my own.
Yes "Ring freaks" they are based a few miles away and have E36's on their fleet. I know a few of the guys that work there and the cars are really well set up for the ring and well prepared. For me this short video of a Caterham at the Ring driving at a decent, but not insane, pace gives anyone new to the Green Hell a wonderful guide to a lap of the circuit.
The footage is super clear and the camera angle up on the roll bar provides a perfect wide angle view. Worth watching!

Caterhams are the easiest car, by far, to heel and toe the downshift, yet this guy isn’t doing it at all and it’s ruining the video lol. The footage is super clear and the camera angle up on the roll bar provides a perfect wide angle view. Worth watching!

I, very very stupidly, didn't get the police involved.
You so should have done.I, very very stupidly, didn't get the police involved.
In 2009 ,a friend's RS1600i rolled into a German Fiat X1-9 and Polizei were there like a rat up a drainpipe.
Got his details, seemed like a stand up guy etc. Even the local (off duty) copper said he was a sound bloke.
Lesson learnt (the hard way, and one I should have known already!)

Peter, why don`t you give someone like Alex, iguana at www.lizardlogistics.com a shout ? He`s been taking cars to and from the Ring for years and years as well as all around Europe. Saves you having to drive it out there yourself, regardless of the weather.Just a thought, but I know plenty of people who have used him to take their track car to a number of Circuits so they can fly / drive in comfort and have their car waiting when they get there.
It’s a monster everywhere really, but surprisingly easy to drive if you’re able to modulate the throttle and not floor it everywhere.
It weighs 530kg and with its super-quiet exhaust on makes 550hp. I have a noisy exhaust that makes 575hp. It revs to 10,000 revs and makes its peak torque right at the top.
