So I bought an R26 for some track work but only ever used it once.....and it was very good. To be honest so good I wish I had bought one as my main drive a few years back.

Change of circumstances mean I have a bit more to spend on a track day toy and she is going.

Criteria:

Up to £20k
RWD
Under 6 seconds to 60, ideally 5
Light
Road legal / comfortable (so no caterfields)

Thinking Elise/VX220 Turbo.

Views on the above and anything else appreciated.

if going down the vx220 route supercharged would probably be better on track.

I bought an R26 for train station duty and I have used it on a few weekend runs, and ii agree tt’s quite capable, for the budget.

Have you tried the later Megane RS’s. I’d like to think they enhanced them positively, each new model.

if you are dead set on RWD, I’d say Elise.

I have an elise, a locost 7 (caterham rep) and a clio cup (stripped, caged, sequential). For road use buy in that order, for track then reverse. Elise feels slow and soft compared to the clio.

If you dont visit the track often i would reccomend getting a pure toy. I.e one which barely makes any sense for road use. A bike engined 7 seems to fit the bill here and comes in at half your budget so you have a ready made track day and contingency budget.
