Hi all,

decided to book myself onto a "warmup" trackday before heading off to spa a couple of months later. Going to trial fit some DIY brake ducts to help with braking at the end of long straights and hopefully figure out any issues or niggles before driving all the way to Belgium!

Anyone else heading there for the evening? It's still at £85 so not bad really, and it's the ISSC Long layout. Anyone have any pointers for that layout? My brother will be co-piloting and has raced there before, so will be getting some invaluable tuition on the day!

No doubt my lines are far from perfect but if you're just asking about the "extra" bit in the long layout (Kirby corner basically), I think the trick is to ignore the first apex and just hit the second with quite a late turn in to get on the throttle early and maximise speed up the long straight that follows. Similar to what you'd do at Deene really.

The chicane at Piff Paff just before that is pretty self explanatory, lots of kerb to straighten it out and go very close to the big white bail thing on the right and let the car bounce across to the left as you have plenty of time to get back to the right for Kirby.

Oh and if it's raining it's all incredibly slippery, more so than any other track I've been on.

Cheers dude - mine will be less than perfect but I'll post the results!

I've heard about it being slippery - rain is forecast so looks like there will be lots of slidey slidey. I'm going to experiment to see if I can kill the ESP as there's only a TCS switch in the 170 - If i want to get the car sliding, I don't want any interference!

All the advice about Rockingham being slippery when wet is absolutely true! It had been raining in the area from around 2pm up until about 6pm, the track was starting to dry towards the end, but a lot of sliding throughout. It seems that turning the "TCS" off, also disables the ESP, I managed to carry a few mph more into a turn than I should've and the back end let go, managed to catch it and do a sort of FWD drift around the turn, I think it almost looked like I knew what I was doing. No interference from the car at all apart from ABS.

Car performed perfectly, was overtaking much more expensive and dedicated track cars. I only took a couple of photos, but should have the professional ones soon.

Just a little footage for those interested. A lot of people there didn't seem to be paying too much attention to what was going on behind (or weren't happy about letting people by) I assume due to it being a tad slippery, so had to just make a move when it was safe as possible to do so. And the odd slower car with a surprising speed difference made things pretty interesting!
