Yeh tbh, most people asume its 4wd, or at least expecting it to be, Issue is iv seen it time and time again people make the cars worse buy converting them. iv tryed to just focus on making it the best of what it is, a FWD hot hatch

On track at the Nurburgring

At Silverstone, one of the PH Sunday Service meetings

Though I do have something else waiting in the wings, though mothballed until I'm able to buy a house with a garage, so this may be not complete for a while yet, already been 15 years but life has been getting in the way as it does, not to mention it's at a friend's lockup who's gone full hermit rolleyes

It's a 1982 Opel Manta 1.8 Coupe (Registered 4 days before my birthday!) Yes the horiffic interior will be going, and I've got the project planned out.
Will need a fair bit of work but the engine has been obtained , a Z20LER engine from an SRi Astra and the 6 speed from a RX8 gearbox.
I'm still needing to get a decent axle from a friend whom has gone quiet due to the virus , not had the virus but just gone full hermit...

Isn't the 1.8l Berlinetta box a direct fit onto the 16v Vauxhall lump anyway? I certainly remember them becoming rare at one point.

Although, you may have chosen the RX8 box for a reason. I considered one for my RWD escort project, but I wanted to keep the original mechanical speedo.

True in that you are correct in the 1.8 box would bolt straight on, however given the engine is turbocharged, the 1800 boxes are well known for going pop beyond 250ft/lb of torque and I'd rather not explode it along with the rear axle given the rarity of the parts.

The RX8 box was picked for the fact it's a close ratio box, they're plentiful and cheap, and given they're designed to go in a car weighing at least 400kg more, they should stand up to the tractive effort generated by the Manta. (Still need to run the calculations on it but lacking full data).

Dashboard wise, I'm considering a rev counter and a digital speedo along with a number of other gauges given the new engine is forced induction.

It is indeed - it's a Custom Cages cage.

Good cages, but don't get them to fit it would be my advice to anyone considering one from them.

That choice of car suits an engine transplant like that - with the gearbox tucked away between the rear wheels.

So track days are open? I was wondering whether or not to book.

Loving the gloriously bad green interior. An old colleague had a similar aged Nova saloon that same colour. It seems charmingly retro now that cars all have dull black plastics instead.

BMW 330i E46 (not very original, is it?)

Bought it in 2018 as a track car already. But needed LOADS of TLC, asi it had been abused for a long time and then sat on a shed for several months.

After 2 years of playing whack-a-mole fixing issues just to discover something else needed attention, I am finally at the point where I can be confident it will take me to the track, and can be thrashed lap after lap after lap and then come back home without needing much work between trackdays.

It just needs a roll cage, that hopefully will be fitted at some point during the year.
