Thanks for all of the replies. Seems a 968 Turbo S is the answer. Shame they only made about 14 of them.
Like I said, Lotus Evora is the answer

With full rollcage you won't get a single wheel into them... wink

If you're so hung up on the 968 bodyshell. Why not drop a built 944 Turbo engine in your 968?
That will easily double the horsepower and is pretty much standard fare nowadays.

This is actually not a bad solution. A friend of mine took his 944s2 race car down to the ring with the track tyres on a roof rack, worked pretty well, though maybe not the best solution for high speed autobahn driving smile

You may have snookered yourself with the non-BMW criteria smile

Track car, road car, flat-droppable rear seats, 4x rims transportable, fits the bill car...

Could you get a full spare set of all four wheels in a Z4M. It looks unlikely?
Definitely not. I could get two in a roadster but it wasn't fun. At a push maybe 3 in a coupe.

I appreciate you didn't want a BMW, but there's a reason why every trackday has several E46 M3's

That is a nice looking M3 I must say.....from your profile it looks like you have a few 911s. How does the M3 compare on the track?

The roof rack is a bit of long shot I think. I get scared with a surf board, let alone 100 kgs of wheels and tyres.

It’s not an easy task this one.

Most car roofs will only take 50kg anyway, details in your manual/google/Parkers.

I am really enjoying my Porsche 968 Sport track car. The fact that it can take a full set of wheels and a 35k trolley jack (as long as you don't take a passenger) is something I find hugely useful. It does however, lack a bit of power.

While there is no track action going on, I got thinking's what else might do the same? Obviously the 924s-968s will. The Porsche 928 is too heavy and I am not interested in BMWs. Any obvious contenders in a 2 seat sports car/coupe style, preferably V6 or V8 and 300 BHP or more?

PS I know the 968 is technically a 4 seater, but mine isn't.
Wait....a WHAT ?!
That’s what I thought! Bloody hell!
Does seem quite expensive for a jack smile

I can get 4 wheels and tyres in mine. Boot will take a trolley jack ok and have space for tools etc
Here is a tasty upgraded Evora. Komotec power upgrade, Hoffmans Nitrons, Quaife LSD, room for 4 wheels. smile Photo quality not great!

Can you really get 4 wheels in an Evora? It looks quite a squeeze.

Yup. Certainly the 18in fronts and 19inch rears. I buy my tyres online, put them in the car and take them to the fitter. You can’t take a passenger as well.

How did they all fit in? 3 wheels in the boot?
One wheel upright in near side rear passenger seat, one in offside rear passenger seat. Each had the wheel outer face pointing to the outside of the car so that a third wheel could sit horizontal on the transmission tunnel between the seats. Fourth wheel vertical on the front passenger seat and jack in front passenger footwell. All the wheels were in soft cotton bags to preserve the leather interior.

Used a ratchet webbing strap to secure the rears, and the seat belt for the front wheel. Wouldn’t want them all flying around in the event of an accident.

Boots in TVRs were made large enough for golf clubs sets, so plenty of room for cans, luggage and helmets. Rear footwells also a small stash area.
Jeez. Straps or not, I wouldn't want to be in an accident in that thing...

from left field.... could you make this work?

less power but power to weight is incredible and a perfect track day weapon.

I do like Caterhams. One option would be to keep the 968 and use that for wet/long distant track events. And something like a Caterham for dry days.

944 Turbo. Like an S2 or a 968, but faster.
