Just in case we survive this, I need to think about preparing the M2 for my 5 or so track days a year.

I don't do tons of road miles so considering running one of the above all year round, but which one?

I will be running AD08r on 18' wheels in the summer and PS4S on the standard 19' in the winter.

XP10 for track work, way more aggressive but will cause more disk wear.

Cheers. Are they roadable for say 6k miles a year ?

I used to run XP10 in the front and XP8 in the rear of my MINI all year round and never really had a problem. However the dealer I sold it to complained about the brake squeal a few weeks later.

That's really good to hear thanks. I suspect the squealing might have been due to lack of use and lack of regular heat cycles while in the dealer's care?

Could be... I never found they squealed but they did sound a bit 'rough' (if that makes sense!) and feel a bit wooden until warmed up; from that point on they were pretty good on the road and blooming brilliant on track. They were easily the best track pad I tried (and believe me I tried a few - EBC, Mintex, Ferodo) and quite liveable with on road.

Can’t beat them once warm! Will squeal a bit but that is the trade off with track pads.

I've run plenty of XP8s and 10s on road and track. As long as you bed them in properly they are fine. I've never noticed an issue with them on road when cold and if the 10s do wear the discs more I don't notice it. I have to replace the discs due to cracking before they wear to the minimum. I switched to 10 because they are supposed to last longer than the 8. I've currently got the Endurance compound (RP2?) on the front to try. Still work perfectly fine on road.

Ian is great to deal with at Carbotech UK too.

RS29 (maybe RS29L now) are fantastic. Not horrible on discs either. You will need to put up with squeal if you use them lightly on the road. That said, the dust isn’t too bad and certainly won’t damage your paint like some pads.

Pagids have great availability as well. Handy if you find yourself at the ‘ring looking for a spare set.

Thanks all. It sounds like RS29 or XP10 will be as good.

I have a feeling that squealing is pretty random, even if they are properly bedded in, and that you could get some with either... or with neither.

Ian did quote around £320 for the XP10 and I can find the RS29 for £260 so price is not even a factor as in the same ball park.

Very true. I've used both RS29 and XP8 on the road as well as track, and the squealing can be random.

I have had success using a combination of ALL of the various methods suggested for eliminating noise:

i.e.

1) Make sure there is a chamfer on the edges of the pads.

2) Then fit anti squeal rubber shims to them: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Anti-Squeal-Shims-Shim-...

3) Then smear a load of anti-squeal lubricant over the rubber shim: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Mintex-Ceratec-Anti-Bra...

It certainly seemed to work well when I tried it, and the cost of the bits is so minimal in comparison there's nothing to lose really.

To confuse matters I have noticed that PFC do a 08 compound for that caliper too...
Has anyone ran a 08 on the road?
I only ever ran the Z rated compound.

I ran PF08s in my e85 z4 for pretty much the entire time i owned it, having previously used EBC yellows for a short time, and then EBC blues when available. The PF 08s are streets ahead - i'd get through a set of blues in 2-3 trackdays before they crumbled away, whereas the PF08s did 6 and were only half worn.

i never experienced fade with them, lap after lap you could stamp on the pedal and the brakes would be there. And they weren't bad on the street, teeny bit of squeal if you brake really lightly when coming to a stop, but anything harder than 20% pedal effort and they didn't squeal.

Thanks a lot for that. I have a good source for them too so might be ideal.

Yes definitely. My experience was 6years+ ago but the squeal wont reduce a great deal. Feel was incredible even from cold once bedded in properly. I bought mine from the US for less money and more pad material. Win win. Good luck.

I have used on track & road DS UNO, Pagid RS29, DS1.11 and all were similar & perfectly fine on roads with minimal warm up.

RS29's tended to squeal a little with light braking, DS1.11 were loud on previous E36 BMW but quiet on R53 Mini all were fantastic & MUCH longer lasting than EBC plasticine in all conditions/circumstances.

XP10/8 combo is regularly used daily in the Mini community but I have remained with DS1.11 front/DS Performance rear.
