For that budget, Clio def seems to be the one, I've met quite a few people at TD with great little cars, roll cages, fully sorted with that price tag as others have said above.

Also know someone with a mk1 modern mini, also roll cage, minor engine mods and sorted chassis for £900 on Facebook marketplace. Not the fastest, but on rails.

You'll get a Honda Civic FN2 for that budget, they're OK as standard but TBH need a fair amount of work, springs and geo, braided hoses, and replacement pads/diss as a bare minimum. Civic EP3s are going up in value and harder to get a decent one.

Just be careful what you buy. There is a lot of rubbish out there at the bottom end of the market.

As said previously, try and buy one with money already spent and then add to it to your own taste.

The black Skoda above stands me in at about 3.5 K.
The usual stuff, bigger intercooler, remapped, bigger exhaust and sports cat et cetera. Quicker steering rack and different hubs, Lowered suspension with stiffer dampers, track pads, fluids and federal RSR tyres plus much more. Running about 240 horses and feels very quick.

Looking at track venues now to book up and I can’t believe how many are booked up already!

I'm thinking of going the way of turbo-ing my mx5. However for the price of the turbo kit alone (reputable) I could buy an already turbo mx5 or there abouts. However you never know how far someone has gone along with the projects and what type of bodge jobs and cheap parts have been used.

Hence my thinking of if I am going to turbo mine, I need to be fully sure I'm not going to want rid in a years time.

Someone has just asked me how much I would sell my track car for.

I added up the current second hand value of all the separate parts and its upwards of £12K, for something I paid £2000 for in 2010.

Its funny how you loose track of costs.
I wouldn't say it's funny, more like scary!

I'm firmly in the ostrich head in the sand category. When the Mrs. asks on occasion "how much money have you thrown away at the boat anchor on the driveway"....I wince a bit, then half the number I think I've spent and then divide it by two before I give my answer! nuts

Most ppl don't realise that dedicated TD cars are in better shape than the majority of road cars, even if some do look tatty. Most ppl also think that because TD, it's a risky but and probably on its last legs, which is most likely to be the case with a road car. Then some think that dropping 6 large (half of your build cost for example) for a car that's worth 2K on the used car market is overpaying. It's only 5-10yrs down the line when they have done it the hard way does the penny sink (I'm in the hard way category too lol but I know better now).

so true.

it's a great journey though and no standard car feels as good. feeling each the difference of each mod. priceless.
My wife has no idea, and often suggests selling it for what I told her it was worth my years ago.

Most of my problem is that the car is EVO based, created when a complete donor car could be had for £1K.
If Id kept that shell instead of cutting the floor out to put in a hatchback, it would be worth over £20k as a modified car.

Oh well, it was a good idea at the time.
