That's so very frustrating, looks like excellent value - especially for Bedford (did a track day there a few years ago - great place!).

I'd have booked it today had I not been going on the EuroHoon on 2nd September. I wouldn't want to tempt fate and something happen to my car (or simply 'over drive' it) and ruin 10 days down to Maranello.

You'll have a blast though! Which car are you taking?

I will prob take the lotus. This is a cheap trackday I have been there quite a lot this year and normally costs around £250 for the day.

Hi Tony,

This does indeed sound very good value however I suspect there may be many, many cars on track... sod that I'll take the MINI

Tony, we really must try and get these pics of your fleet sorted at some point - you should at least have a garage hung A3 of the Murcielago! Maybe see you September (unless your heading down on the 5th August for the Autocar day....)

cheers,
Steve

booked... phoned up and they said max 40 cars on the day which seems very low, but they assured me that was the case (not 40 cars on track at one time either - 40 cars on the day). see you there...

Not that I read the publication you understand. But I did a previous Redline event at Bedford a couple of years ago in my previous car, as it was such good value. Even had a picture in the mag (See Profile).

Lots of people last time, and run on the smaller South West (IIRC) circuit, but very few of the 'MAX' brigade. Only incident was a Clio half spin, dig in the turf, semi roll by the pit lane. Good mix of Lotus, VX200's, TVR's, Scooby's and the like. One Saxo from memory.

Twas good fun. May book the 911 in for a blast.

Cheers

Trackdemon,

I will be at Bedford on the 5th but I will be in my BMW racecar, if your gonna be at the redline day I will try and get the cars over for some pics. Still haven't got the Lambo back from that day its having engine rebuild but should be ready in a couple of weeks, see you Friday anyway?

What's the number to confirm how many cars will be there on the day? If it really is 40 then I'll be very tempted, although having been to a Redline day a couple of years ago I recall there were many more than 40 cars; that however was on a Saturday & Bedford is way more expensive to hire on a Saturday than a weekday. If its <60 cars and I can get the time off I'll take the MCS for its first track thrash of the year - it was my track wheels of choice last year so its about time it got out again

Tony, look forward to catching up with you on Friday - I presume we're talking about the Autocar / Vauxhall day? Sorry to hear about the Murcie - I thought it was just the exhaust that'd failed on it? Lambo engine rebuild's don't come cheap! We'll get those pics sorted some time soon.

I too spoke to them back then, just before I booked; they wouldn't be drawn on exact numbers but said that it would not be a busy overcrowded day.

But although internet bookings closed some time ago,
I see that today on 'PistonHeads' they are advertising it again!
I hope (as a first timer at Bedford) that they have
not had a change of heart regarding numbers.

I'd guess 100dB at 1.5 metres

are track day sound testings done at 1.5m?
if so then how does anything ever fail?
when i go racing with my dad the tracks that perform sound checks all do it with the end of the sound meter stuck into the end of hte exhaust. if racing cars are able to pass this then i dont see how any road legal car could possibly fail one at 1.5m

I'm 90% sure they are, but alot of people turn up in 'UN' road legal cars!!

Chris, that's easy to answer because there is no specific regulation in the MoT regarding exhaust sound. My Griff 500 measures around 104-105db and I can assure it's perfectly legal!

Lee, it's more likely 0.5 mtr as in these reg's from Donnington...

Noise Regulations (Autumn Track Day)

Static Noise Test - Cars: maximum 105 dbs at ¾ maximum revs.
Measured 0.5 metres from the end of the exhaust pipe with the microphone of the noise meter at an angle of 45° with the exhaust axis, with the engine at ¾ maximum rpm.

Drive-by Test - For all vehicles maximum 103 dbs at 10 metres from trackside.
