I would disagree to a degree with this.
1) Taxi drivers are quick compared to many of the visitors but many still drive within their comfort level and retain a margin.
I'm not complaining that taxi drivers are driving outwith their own ability, rather that a fleet of them help push TF speeds up in general, and the affect this may have on other drivers.

The track built cars will have TUV.
How do you explain things like GT3 Cup and 458 Challenge cars turning up with number plates and a 'TUV', or the Ring Mini which has a 4wd drivetrain swap? It's clear that at least some of the ring regulars have 'bent' TUVs.

I have seen many cup cars on tuv. There are ways and it normally involves a big wedge of money to have the car tested much like on a sva.
Ring mini, well if Achim has had previous mods when building his minis over the years I think that sets a precedent that can be called on for later builds.
You need to remember that tuv does not blanket ban everything as work can be done that is not in anyway stock but anything can be inspected by tuv and they decide if the work is safe and fit for use. Then they grant the ticket.
Yes there could always be an option should you know a friendly tuv man. But they are acting for the government and are likely not to risk their career if the work is sub standard.

The taxi’s. There has always been faster cars than the official taxi’s.
I know of people driving sub 7 in tf. They are in no way influenced by the taxi’s.

You really think there are people approaching the all-time road car lap record on TF days? Sub 7min is ridiculous, and normally requires a clear track.

Yes there are. There are quiet times in tf that some will exploit. Remember though that they are often in heavily modified cars that surpass the equipment levels of proddie cars. Some not so but they are out there..
Also remember we are talking about btg not industry full lap!!

I'd assume there's loads of evidence out there for this, right? Like YT videos.

Here’s one.
https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=Osbe1jUUqSY

There are many more if you look for them, also many of the regulars don’t post videos. They don’t need to.
The sub 7 tf laps have been happening for some years.
Virtually every day or evening I have been instructing this past week there have been perfect conditions and a clear track for people to exploit if the wish to.

That's an incredible lap. But it's not really representative of the norm, is it?

If you spend your life out here you get used to it.

You don't see any issue with sub 7 minute BTG laps, pro drivers, cup cars with iffy TUVs, because 'you get used to it'? You're not really seeing things from the casual TF drivers viewpoint are you?

Right let’s get this straight.
I am not a fan of sub 7 tf laps. However it is a part of the whole picture nowadays. If it was down to me I would ban all modified cars of any sort but tf is run under German road rules and enforced by the police and authorities alongside the German laws.
We could ban all vehicles theoretically capable of driving fast but how would you propose that to be governed?
There used to be a saying that”a good driver can drive a bad car fast, and that a bad driver can’t drive a good car fast”. Problem is nowadays is that pretty much anyone can get behind the wheel of a fast non modified Porsche, McLaren, bmw or whatever and still drive fast. Yes I’ve worked at the Nürburgring for over 10 years sat next to all sorts of people, that are not your typical petrol head and driven respectable times in these sorts of cars.
So how do we fix the problem?? We can’t!
The best we/you can do is to accept it happens and drive within your limits, knowledge and ability, while adhering to correct observation of your mirrors. If you are slower and checking when you should you are highly likely to be spooked by someone that does know the track and car intimately enough to lap at these speeds.
The only other option is to close TF as we know it and run it as a trackday type event where any blame on anyone is zero. No insurance or governance.
Yesterday evening for the second hour of TF the track was really empty, was there guys or girls going sub ? Not that I was aware of. So if someone is in the casual tf group then pick your times carefully. Yes it may mean waiting to 6pm for everybody to go home but there are windows of opportunity. Even getting up early and being there at 8am can have a good result.
As for dodgy tuv.. if you or anyone suspects foul play go to the track control office as most of the staff working there are highly clued in and many are also from a police background. Some still are.

Lucky to only come across 3 other (very well behaved and in the right place) cars - but that was some incredible driving going on there!

There was a video couple of years back of a GT2RS chasing a Huracan Performante through TF traffic...made for a great vid of course but for me they took too many chances and were leaving almost no margin for error...had they arrived at an incident at one of the many blindspots on the track there would have been serious carnage.

This is surely just an acknowledged illegality. The Ring wouldn't be half as profitable if it started turning away those cars it suspected of having dodgy TUVs.

Here's Misha from Apex discussing the same: https://youtu.be/IXTzDduRXbM?t=105

Yes remember that pile up a horrific incident...the same chap subsequently got a GT2RS and the vid I mentioned came out a couple of years later...didn't learn his lesson it would appear.
