Someone didn't listen in the briefing
Discussion
It is frustrating because you are simply not allowed to dive bomb them into a corner where they are slower, but they can easily keep you behind on the straights. It's the bane of everyone who tracks a light car with excellent handling but without massive straight line speed.
My worst case that I remember was in my TVR at Snetterton, when a brand new gold BMW M4 came out of the pits as I was approaching at 120 mph and swerved straight across the track onto my line without looking. After a brief code brown I followed him and set about getting past.
He was then chronically slow around the corners, but was hogging the racing line and refusing to move right on the straights. And of course he was faster than me by 5-10 mph down the straights but I was right behind him in the bends. After about 3 laps of this frustration, I popped back into the pits and reported the driving god to the TDO. I am pleased to say they took notice and had a chat. Full marks to Javelin. It had been specifically mentioned in the briefing because the pit exit is close to the first corner and at one of the fastest points on the track.
I think that's only the second person I have felt it necessary to report in 10 years of track days, so the standard generally must be pretty good.
The first one was a very slow bright red Caterham-type car, that was 30 mph slower than all other such cars, swerved from side to side on the straights without warning, and had NO MIRRORS!!!

. I had the same following a tuned Focus RS around Cadwell in my 200bhp Mini.
Funny enough, I had the same in my 130bhp 1974 celica around brands , the car in question was a Mini cooper. I was massively faster everywhere exept start finish and and cooper. Would he move over. No. I came in and waited till he wasn't on track. poo at Paul's said:
Yes, you should have either been much more decisive and just gone around the outside of him in one of them fast rights, or drive it through the pit Lane one lap, then straight back out.
Overtaking in the bends or braking zones isn't allowed unfortunately and the pits were closed as they used them to queue up the cars for the next session. I did try backing off and crawling round for a lap, but then caught him on the next lap because he was that slow (last two laps of the video)I was on track that day too, in the Bilstein Supra (ironically given I too was held up a while by this guy too!)
I ended up 'figuring out' a way past on a corner exit and had a gentle word with the driver after the session.
Turns out he'd only had the car a few weeks and hadn't driven Goodwood before, and chatting with him it quickly became apparent to me he was just a bit green and meant no harm.
Good fun nonetheless, it was super quick in a straight line and great to watch.

There's nothing wrong with that, unfortunately.
In the end it comes down to having a chat with him, and working out between you how to work around it.
You could go out in the passenger seat with him and give him some tuition if he is happy to have some,
And take him out in your car and talk him through the lines and how to corner faster.

That was my first time at Goodwood too. Like you I found him after and had a gentle word, unfortunately when I spoke to him he was of the opinion that it was my fault for not being quick enough on the straights. Agreed that he was very green, I'm sure in the past novices would get an additional few minutes at the end of the briefing to hammer home some of the basics, that doesn't seem to happen anymore, just a "are there any novices here today?" raising of hands now.I ended up 'figuring out' a way past on a corner exit and had a gentle word with the driver after the session.

Op if you were really faster and better you would have had no issue getting by.
Your hand waving is arrogance at its max. My car is slower so I'm going to wave my hand... Ok Maldonado.
Well done to the chap in the supra. It's being used rather than sat on a drive boasting of its value

OP, i feel your pain. this is the worst example i've ever seen of MASSIVE power in a straight line, but biblically slow through the corners. he should be on a drag strip really.
however, i'd never pay for a track session that was part of a public show day and expect to do any serious quick laps, the standard of driving just doesnt allow for it. has to be an open pit lane trackday, so you can avoid the other driver, and the organisers can nip this kind of behaviour in the bud early on in the day.

No comment on the Supra but I must say I didn’t realise you could reach such speeds at goodwood, 100+ through the corners, looks much more rapid than when I’m watching the revival on tv!
It's a great circuit and I found it quite challenging to learn with lots of unsighted apex's. The cornering speed on mine is probably a fair bit higher than a lot of the revival cars, as they will be somewhat restricted by tyres and a lack of aero. Here's a video of a faster lap I did on that day without traffic. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S9c-EDixEck

That's exceptionally weak trolling. Your hand waving is arrogance at its max. My car is slower so I'm going to wave my hand... Ok Maldonado.

I guess watching on tv it looks a very short lap and the cars are ‘lively’ and not going all-balls then it looks slower. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S9c-EDixEck
From your onboard I see that’s not really the case, very fast and committed!

A front running Lotus Cortina at the Revival is probably a couple of seconds slower than the op.A front running lightweight e-type is lapping maybe almost 30 seconds quicker.
They look bloody quick to me on their ‘historic’ tyres.
