Returning to ‘ring life after a good few years away (kids!).

Places seem to be thin on the ground for track days, is there much point in getting in touch with Darren for cancellations?

Or anywhere else to recommend?

I would drop Darren at DN a message. He's always first to know and, for various reasons, there's always people have to drop out.

Also try Circuit Days.

Just watched Misha’s most recent video in the Fiesta ST. That alone puts me off venturing out during TF - people driving along with their hazards on and because he hasn’t seen a yellow flag he’s going at full attack passing them all. Quite a few near misses as well.

I clicked randomly on the video 2 minutes in and first thing is lunging down the inside of someone. Then out the yellow flags he can see at the fox hole the bmw is there but still thinks "lets go for a gap that isnt even in existence" I then turned it off. He preaches safety then drives like he is racing in TF. Full of Irony with his comments.

Looking at going to the Ring for my stag this year and renting a car for a few laps. Does anyone have any recommendations on places to stay and car rentals? Will be probably 6 of us going.

For car rentals I like the look of the BMWs that Ringfreaks have. All 6 of us going have race licenses so the BMWs look like a bit of fun and relatively affordable.

Race licence means NOTHING for TF. Contact the company get a quote and also try others like Rent 4 Ring

Another vote for Rent4Ring, their Swifts (despite being wrong wheel drive) are good fun and well-prepared. Also I found if you're going out in TF, going the evening before a trackday (i.e. when the drivers' briefing is normally being held) results in a track that is quiet and largely free of lunatics - the aforementioned YouTubers excepted... Tried this a couple of times the evening before Circuit Days trackdays and was surprised how quiet the track was.

I’ve rented for Rent4Ring quite a few times and I’ve used Ringfreaks on the past two times that I’ve been there. Honestly you will have an absolute blast with either of those set ups. R4R is probably a bit better set up with regards to first timers (literally a minute from the circuit entrance, detailed briefings etc.), RF has their own benefits if you want something manual and RWD which I did. Both companies have gone to great lengths to fully kit out the cars so they will happily lap again and again and if you’ve got the skills you’ll keep up (and pass) much faster stuff in the corners!

Wherever you stay, try and have an explote of the area. If you stay at big hotels by GP track, then explore Adenaur etc.

Don't drive on public roads like balloons. Not cool and it's been done ot death.

TF is not a track day.

'Ring is not a racetrack.

Treat it like fast road trip.

Enjoy!

Depends how long you intend to stay, and whether you'll only be driving, or whether you want to take in the atmosphere and watch some TF, or an event day.

If you want a more rounded experience, consider staying at a hotel that overlooks the track, such as the Hotel An Der Nordschleife

He is known as a reckless driver around the Ring. The problem is, the more recklessly he drives, the more his fans praise him for it.

Has anyone got san idea what cost track insurance is for a GT4 (718) for a couple of days at the ring? I'll get a quote from Moris (any other recommendations?) I'm expecting its won't be cheap!

Whatever you go for be it for tf or a trackday, read the small print very carefully. Chances are it will only cover your car and not cover liability for damage to other vehicles or damages to infrastructure or persons if you are deemed to be at fault.

Trackday this Roy it's just the car that's insured is my understanding? I think you can get additional cover for the furniture?

Usually the cover for Armco etc is an optional extra cost IME.

Covering two days of DN later this year was £1380 for me with an off season discount via Moris, 718 GT4. £15k excess, no Armco.

FWIW I’ve used Moris, but last year Mannings also had decent rate.
