Silverstone This Weekend - "Informal" Spectators?

Hi all. Passing Silverstone tomorrow and thought we'd pop in to see if there was anything on and understand there is a track day on the National circuit. We're only passing but the kids have started to take a real interest in cars/motorsport so would love to watch some cars on the track even if its just for 10 minutes/staring through a fence. Does anyone know if there is a place near the museum for example where you can have a watch for a few minutes???

Again, no idea if it is free or even open, but it was an interesting visit when I was there for an event a few years ago.
A ride around their handling track in the 4 seater saloon was a very positive experience.
As to track days, I have never done one at Silverstone due to cost, but as said above, at every other track I have been to, you just drive straight into to circuit and then go to wherever you fancy. Children accompanied by an adult are usually welcomed, I am not sure about age limits. Dogs are definitely not allowed at the circuit.
I have sometimes had visitors come up to me on track days to ask for passenger rides in my TVR.
Most track day particiants are approachable and happy to help - I certainly am.
There is a lower age limit for passenger rides, but I am not sure if it is 14 or 16.
It's about size, safety, and common sense if an emergency occurs on track.
A helmet is required, which you can hire at the track, and there is a fee, which at tracks where I have been is usually around £20 and covers the whole day.
There is often interesting machinery to swoon over.
